I wish I was as smart as the armchair detectives on this forum.

If they had been real detectives the case would have been solved in minutes

picture the scene

Woman comes into police station to report her aunt has gone missing on her way to Sok Kwu Wan.

Right says inspector "Dory" " clearly thats a ruse she isn't missing she's been murdered., what do you say chief inspector "lllturtles"

"quite correct, that woman's husband is a known violent man, he murdered her and probably hid the body behind the sofa"

"get round there and search the place top to bottom and don't bother doing a search on the island for a missing person , that would clearly be a waste of police time and resources and we wouldn't want to be accused of incompetence"

case closed

Dim Sum anyone

At least the armchair detectives did better than the sofa inspectors

''A man has appeared in Eastern court, accused of murdering a British tourist on Lamma Island last week. Fareed Ahmed, 29, is alleged to have murdered Janet Gilson in a flat in Tai Yuen village. No plea was taken and the case was adjourned until March 25 for an identification parade to be arranged. Mr Fareed - who's a citizen of the Maldives - was remanded in custody.''

as a 'no plea' was entered by the murderer, sorry Ahmed, yesterday in court, why was the hearing adjourned to allow an identification parade? Is Julia going to have to identify him? what purpose does this serve in the proceedings?

No idea, but I would have thought the fact that the SCMP printed his face in the paper would render an identity parade a bit worthless.

Here's a question or two for amateur sleuths:

How is it possible to live in a 700 sq foot flat for three or four days in humid weather without realising there's a dead body in the sofa? Or was nobody using the flat during that time?

As I live on Lamma, colleagues expect me to know the answers!

<img src="http://www.compunicate.com/Lamma/Blog/RIP-Janet-Gilson/Janet-Gilson-photo2.jpg" border=1 align=right hspace=5 vspace=4>Emails from Julia:

"If you have time can you please publicise that I am arranging a small get-together at the Bookworm on next Monday 4th April, 7.30pm-9.30pm. This will be a Remembrance for Janet and a thank you from me for all the nice messages, offers of help and support I've received across the last two weeks. Anyone is welcome to drop by. The funeral will be held on Wednesday 13th April in the UK where around 400 people are expected to attend.

Miss Gilson had been an ordained Salvation Army officer since 1969 and held a number of senior positions around the UK, including at the Leigh church, but also devoted her energies to helping the church expand its work overseas.

Major John said:
“Her most exciting work was in the Nineties when she worked with the newly-emerging Salvation Army in Russia, and was involved there for several years as it became established, and she also helped train Salvation Army leaders in Russia.” He paid tribute to Miss Gilson’s devotion to her calling, and spoke of how she would never shy away from being firm when circumstances called for it. He said: “She was the sort of woman who didn’t mince her words and she could be formidable in some ways, but she had such a huge heart and so much compassion and love for people from all walks of life of all ages. This is a great loss.”

He added:
“She has impacted the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people right across the globe. She was quite unique.”

Thanks
Julia Fareed"
