Join the Ladies dragon boat team, shaky bottoms and all; be a roadie for BBChris; become a barmaid at the Island Bar and meet all those delightfully unhinged characters in there; become Chris the carpenter's 52nd Lamma girlfriend (right age); miss the ferry and somehow never quite leave Lamma, standard practice. That should fill the gap nicely.

If we are indeed talking about the same Jo Hicks, perhaps we can simply recommend a trip to the bar on a drunken Saturday night. With much luck, the BBCers are bound to come across some form of nudity or another

In terms of things to do though, perhaps Michelle can:
~ work at one of the Chinese seafood restarants for an evening - she must catch the seafood out of the tank herself (no I haven't done that)
~ look after the bookstore for Nick for an afternoon - I'm sure Lammarites will be a little surprised, to say the least (obviously haven't done that myself)
~ stand in for an evening for that freaky guy at the restaurant next to the public loo (the ones currently under renovation)... you know, that guy on the side of the road who tries luring you into having a meal in the restaurant (I haven't yet - both in terms of dining there and standing in for him)
~ simply break into her own flat (haven't had to do that yet)
~ walk to Tai Peng with bags full of groceries (yes, I have done that... and if that's not crazy, I don't know what is)

Nice list. I've done none except look after Nick's books and carry a shopping bag or two up Tai Ping 'lung attack' hill.

- Negotiate a sampan at 4:15 in the morning (blotto) arguing about the price and the seaworthiness of the vessel with someone who looks at you like you are an alien.
- Come home on the 1:15 afternoon ferry dressed as a Mexican from the night before and then go shopping in the town.
- Crawl into every bush to confirm your vertical postion by use of roots and leaves.
- Stay a night in the Lai Wah Hotel and confirm its not just a knocking shop.
- Go 1 day without a drink.

But the Lai Wah Hotel idea sounds like a good Lamma-zine feature story... Any volunteers to research & write it?

I've just asked her about her name.
She must get that a lot when mentioning her name to people in the UK. But, as a non-Brit, I have to admit I didn't know her at all.

Here's more suggestions for Michelle yet...

~ learn how to play mahjong and have a good game or two with the local ladies
~ race around Lamma on a VV
~ help farming for the elderly gent and granny at Yung Shue Long
~ tour the HEC plant! (anyone on Lamma done that??)
~ volunteer at the clinic so she can get all the juicy gossip on most locals (you didn't think the staffers there just sit at the clinic and wait for patients, do you?) AND Michelle will have to get a shot or two of the cutesy ambulance!

Ur... When is Michelle coming? She might need a translater!!

Just got a reply from Jo Hicks:
"unfortunately not THE Jo Hicks, sorry to dis-appoint! although happy for you to say I am if that encourages more ideas!!!!"

She's a researcher for BBC Documentaries, collecting ideas of fun & unusual things to do in HK, for somebody called Michelle who'll come here in a few months to experience the best ideas, as a "Grown-up Gapper" taking a few months off from her usual life, while they film a documentary on her experiences here.

Any more good ideas on what kind of unusual, crazy, wild things to do on Lamma?

Yes Marcus it would destroy the karma.

I call two months off a "holiday". Doesn't the word "gappers" refer to those who take a much longer break? There is no shortage of these people on Lamma...

Marcus - you forgot to mention: bum a free ride on the (tax paid!) ambulance helicopter to HK island. Even if your misses has to hold out until the ferries stop, before being rushed to the maternity ward.

I'm taking a short break from doing very little to work - sort of inverse gapper- as I need the bucks.

God it's painful, how do people manage to sit in an office for the better part of their lives ??
