Well, not really. They've got their own assistants to take photos of all their events. I just followed Chairman Chan's assistant when she got all the Lamma Luminaries and VIPs to line up for her group shot, just jumping in to take my own photos at the same time. They didn't line up for me specifically, even though I know about half of them fairly well for years. I'm more of a tolerated outside observer with a candid camera shooting these local events, welcome to take pictures as it's free and friendly promotion for them and their nice events.
Many of the locals recognise me by now, but often not as the Lamma.com.hk guy at all, but simply as the quiet, friendly gweilo who's lost a lot of weight and is married to a cheerful HK Chinese lady. Lamma-Por is more of a local minor celeb than me.
I wasn't even officially invited to this ceremony; just seeing the Chinese-only poster on the Rural Committee door, taking a picture and getting it translated. As they changed the time from the former lucky, Fung-Shui-selected time of 5:30am to the more crowd-friendly 9:30am at short notice. I almost missed it till I talked by chance to the Rural Committee who asked me for an artist contact to decorate the huge front of the roof of the almost completed Activity Centre, to be opened around CNY.
While talking, I took the opportunity to get some of their own very nice inside-the-temple before/after shots onto my USB drive, adding them to the photo gallery above.
In general, our local powers-that-be are pretty friendly and approachable, no problem to have a chat on the ferry with Chairman Chan, as I did recently, or even meeting all our 3 District Councilors by sheer coincidence inside the Lamma Quarry recently (photos in progress).
So the job of "Official Court Photographer" is still available as the former, more worthy holder of this title is only rarely ever being seen on Lamma these last few years.
