My/our village streets are filling up with dog shit.

PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR DOG WALK AROUND BY ITSELF.

WILL YOUR DOG BRING HOME THEIR OWN SHIT???
NO, BUT I MAY DELIVER IT TO YOUR DOOR PLUS MORE.

Be considerate.

A dog owner and long time Lamma resident.

On the short walk from my home to the ferry a couple of days ago I saw 3 separate piles of dog shit in the middle of the path. Had I been returning at night I would almost certainly have trodden in one of them.
I am sick and tired of people bleating on about how they value their pets and how they wish to stand up for their rights to own them while showing no interest whatsoever in the responsibilities of ownership.
I also witnessed one of 'Lamma's finest' on his bicycle almost fall over a large unleashed dog in the middle of the village on a busy Sunday. Did he get off his bike and try to find the owner and fine/caution them? Did he fuck!

i used to be ok with dogs until i lived in lamma, its not their fault its the owners for not following the obvious community requirment, they can get away with it thats why its so easy for them to be relaxed and lazy to clear up after their dogs, disgrace to their friends and families who have to live with it, the only way to stop it is for people to start speaking out and there should be fines in place on lamma like in hk in gerneral

This is a police matter. They are clearly ignoring hundreds of violations each week of the laws requiring dogs to be leashed . There are always dogs roaming around outside their 'box' while they sit inside drinking tea. Who polices the Lamma Police? Somebody needs to contact them and get them to light a fire under their lazy arses.

Lamma Police wouldn't know community or proactive policing if it jumped up and bit them on the ass! Just look at the state of them, no self respect and certainly no pride on wearing the uniform.

For loose dogs it's AFD, and for their crap it's FEHD that should be regulating and acting. It's not really the cops' job.

But in any case, make a report to 1823 and demand that action be taken.

Phone 1823, or http://www.1823.gov.hk/eng/ or email Tellme@1823.gov.hk
If possible, attach some photos giving details.

1823 has been surprisingly effective in motivating the other departments into action.
For instance, a complaint to them got drainage for the Yan Yan puddle that had been there for the last 25 years while Home Affairs just shrugged.

Yes. I counted 10 large dogs in The Beer Garden last Sunday. Ridiculous, dangerous and unhygienic.

Sorry to say but many traveler bring their pets with them and I think it's their duty , not allow them alone, if they like to go with their pets they must be stay with their pets.

Our observation is that many of the freely wandering large dogs are familiar faces. Worst spots of dog shits as far as we know are Cable Road, Main Road near the Thai barbeque stall, and the footpath linking Tai Wan and Wang Long.

Very sick of all the dog shits around, especially as we have so many young kids and elderly living here!!

By the way, why are dogs allowed on the LCSD beach when there is a clear sign prohibiting it?! Last time we were quite scared by a large black dog which kept following us - it was obviously not a stray dog!

Will anyone help design a poster campaigning against "dog shitting" our Island? Or, will "naming" the calprit dog owners help?

We were quite amused this morning when walking through the just-founded brand-new village of Tai Wan Nam (just off Power Station Beach, where all these new village houses will be built in the recently massacred old-growth forest), my friend walking his two big dogs w/o a leash.

A father with 3 small colourful, fashionable children on colourful bikes with training wheels and pink bike helmets crossed out path, teaching his children that these two big dogs are probably safe and "not dangerous as they are with these two men."
I almost wished him "Welcome to Lamma!"

Right afterwards, one of these two big dogs absolutely refused to go through the nearby new village houses, despite the best efforts of his "human companion". The houses were probably the home of the family, the dog not being familiar with the area yet. A really timid big dog who would'n hurt a fly. We had to take a different longer path.

They're not allowed. The lifeguards enforce it when they're on duty, but now, outside official swimming season, there are only a couple there for first aid and they don't bother. You could make a complaint to them and they would have to take action. But they close at 5:30 or 6pm.

However, if there isn't an owner, just a loose dog, they probably won't chase after it.

If a dog is following you, and not growling or barking at you, it's because it's lonely or hungry, it's probably not a danger no matter how it looks. But it might be frightened and nip at you if you pat it.

The Lamma Animal Welfare Centre had put up posters for a period of time asking people to clean up after their dogs. However, the posters were often quickly taken down by LCSD workers.

If anyone can help put up posters on their private walls of their homes, please contact us. We would gladly provide the posters.
