Yes, it's been quite a few weeks since I met him in the pavilion above the windturbine, walking his dogs, mentioning that he doesn't take pictures anymore these months, too busy with his own new business.

And he hasn't answered my last emails...
Did somebody call him? New mobile number, probably?

As anonymous_guy seems to have given up bird photography (?), we hope that we'll get more from other Lamma Bird-o-graphers soon?
I know his are some very big shoes to fill, but don't be shy, this is a friendly and supportive community of nature lovers here.

Let me start with a Yung Shue Wan shot from the other day, from quite a distance at maximum zoom without tripod.
This is a huge, almost kite-sized bird, not sure about its exact name.

Great shots. The verditer is to my knowledge the first time it's ever been photographed here on Lamma. The reed warbler shot are excellent - especially the first and fifth photo wich really show up that characteristic black eyebrow very well.

Long time no post - here's an unusual sight in Tai Peng - a group of collared crows, contesting the right to perch on the tallest Casuarina with a large-billed crow. This species is rather uncommon in these parts.

Hi. Apologies for my lack of communication.

Have spent the last 6 months in Uk with my Mum who was suffering with a terminal illness.
Returned a few hours ago.
Will be out & about over the next few days and am keen to catch up with Harry et al.
Neil should be over tomorrow before disappearing off to Canada for the break.

Some really great photos & sightings Harry. The upgrade has really worked out well.
Zep...... good to see you are around. Nice shots of the Collared Crows although a pair have been regular visitors over the past few years as you look toward HK from the Wind Turbine. Have seen quite a few at Nam Sang Wei in the past, but not in a group such as yours....... is a really good sighing..

Lamma-Gung {L_WROTE}:

Sometimes LG..... is better to listen to what others are telling you & not focus on yr own conversation.

Neil has been keeping an eye on things up at the house in my absence & has some great photos of:

Red-flanked Bluetail - female
Mugimaki Flycatcher - Male & female
Manchurian Bush Warbler
Several thrushes etc etc

Will ask him for copies to post or see if I can get a few of my own.

Once again apologies for not being around but am incredibly impressed with the quality of the sightings & images posted herein.

LG - have an old printed version of the Lamma magazine my Mum had treasured away that might be of interest to you - should arrive here in the next month or so

Thanks G on both counts.......... really good to be back.
England is nice, but Lamma is home.

If you recall, on my last visit 'home' I ran into you as you were preparing for your afternoon bbq (although looked as if you started it 3-4 hours earlier) and told you the sad news........ Harry unfortunately passed away a few months ago of unknown causes while I was in England. His raucous welcome was missed on my return last night

All the best, Guy

Let's hope that the great bird photos will continue in this top topic running for several years now.

For a change, let me post one of my own pretty bad bird photos, shot from the new Green Cottage 32 with a pocket camera on maximum zoom. I like the boot, definitely an unusual bird photo....

Come on, anonymous_guy and guys, show us again that you can do so much better!

Amazing! It's a Lesser Orange-crested Sparkling-heron, never before seen on Lamma (or anywhere else). I'm sure your bird photography skills will continue to improve if you put a bit of "welly" into it.

Guy - sorry to hear of your news from home, but great to have you back - this forum certainly missed you.

Here's a shot of a young Common Kestrel (I think) on Mount Stenhouse today.

Very nice shot of what is probably a female, beautifully clear. I was over Stenhouse way yesterday and didn't see anything. Was this very close, or is it taken with a long zoom? I hope you can manage to find time to post more bird shots. We need some more contributors.

Since your shot is so good, I am very reluctant to upload the two crappy shots I was just about to post when I saw yours, but I will anyway, if only to encourage other photographers to post something better. These are actually "record shots" i.e. they are not good photos as such but identify some unusual sighting - this time a Pallas' Leaf Warbler - the first time I've managed to get a shot of one. They are pretty uncommon on Lamma and the fact that they flit around like they're on speed doesn't help either. They are rather similar to yellow-browed warblers, but smaller, and with a yellow stripe on the top of the crown, as seen in the second photo.

Wow, Harry, many great photos; well done. The black-browed warbler shots are fantastic.

Geoff, you are too corny for words (put some Welly in it, indeed).

Guy, we are all happy for your return. I am sorry to hear about your loss. Hang in there.
