More.... A pair of Pintail / Swinhoe Snipe .....

I changed the name because the bill is not as long as the bird book said to identify as Common Snipe....

Great series of shots! I've never seen snipe on Lamma before, so nice record.

Some really good captures there Harry...., especially the Snipes & Cuckoo.
Neil digiscoped a Dollar Bird in the big Banyan Tree on Wednesday, but not much else.
All I got today was this ever-present chap.......

There were really some activities down in YSL... In addition to those above, I have seen a Black Bittern but no photo.

Here is the Siberian Stonechat seen yesterday .. but still too far away.

One closer shot of the Magpie Robin ....

Nice shots - some interesting goings on down in YSL valley.

Here's a shot of a crested goshawk resting on a tree in Tai Peng. I'd like to claim it as my own, but it was actually sent by my neighbour Manticore, who spied it out of his window.

Here's are several more shots of the same goshawk. He stayed there some 30 minutes while I drank my coffee, posing for a few photos and exhibiting an evident fondness for Paganini.

A Paganini-loving Goshawk? Sounds like a most intriguing topic!

Are there any specific musical genres that Lamma's birdlife prefers?
Could this be used to lure specific species into good positions for photo taking?
Sounds like a topic for a HKU research paper!

Attending the Synthetic Biology conference at HKUST all weekend, I didn't even hear a word about this fascinating topic! But they were more occupied with creating synthetic life, one guy even talking (in jest, I believe, but couldn't be sure) about creating real Centaurs and Chinese dragons in the not-too-distant future...
Well, they're already capable of creating (partially) artificial viruses and even simple bacteria and you can order the ready-made genes you need from online shopping websites.

Nice pics one and all. Sounds like a good earmark project for the next Alaskan budget: "musical preferences of crested goshawks" $1.3 million.

Wow, these are some beautiful photos! And so many different birds in a single post. Great!

I just don't have the patience and experience and talent to get such great shots, even though I have a suitable camera. I'm more of an impatient, quick click-click-click-what's-next photojournalistic shutterbug...

HarryLi, we're so glad you've followed in Guy's big footsteps and have become our new #1 poster of Lamma birds! More, more, we need more of your pictures to feature in our Wildlife Photo of the Day spot on the home page!

Hi L-G, is there anyway that I can embed a video here. I have some interesting bird videos, home made of course.

Harry,

You could simply upload your videos to YouTube or a similar service and then post the link here.

Well done getting the Blackbird. Quite a few around these last few weeks but very difficult to get a clear shot.

This apparenlty young male grey-backed thrush nearly became a drowning victim after getting into difficulty in an old well in the Tai Peng community garden this morning. The feathers seemed to be waterlogged and the bird was unable to negotiate the steep sides of the well. Fortunately an alert early-morning garden waterer was on hand to rescue the bird.

Possibly exhausted from the flight South. Good to hear it worked out ok.
Is one of the first thrushes sighted so far this year.
