Here's the link for details of why Dan's Anastasia's has to close this weekend.
Somebody backstabbed Dan by snitching to the Hawker Patrol, forcing him to close down:

'somebody backstabbed Dan'??? Mighty dramatic! Basically he couldn't be bothered to apply for some sort of food serving licence? Or he DID apply and failed??

If Dan's dream was to be a success, surely he would have done as much right as possible?

Careful, Goddess!
You might get into trouble with the very large and powerful FOOD lobby group (Friends Of Outstanding Dan)!

Most of us had not realized his license problem, but neither do we think it reasonable that you have to invest over $300,000 in HK to sell any take-away food, even if it's not prepared and consumed on the premises, like in his case!

That IS expensive. However he could have piggy-backed his business with another restaurant as one option. There is always a way.

And I really don't care what the FOOD people think of me. I'm a rock goddess.

No, no...Dan, with due respect, now you're wrong. I may understand that you're bitter about your misfortune, but there's no point in saying (quoting you) "But who does" ?! That's a rather lame excuse my friend ! Maybe you were so consumed into thinking how to provide good service to your patrons that you forgot to cover you butt FIRST. Success brings myriad of difficulties and you have to be strong/prepared to face yes..envy and jealousy as well. The fact is, you'll find these people (snitch) wherever you go no matter where/how small/big communities you live in, these guys do not look for your strenght but contrary, they look for your weakness; your's being not abiding by the law and sometimes, the law is an ass ! Let's be fair Dan, you did take advantage of the situation and competed unfairly with your fellow shop owners whom they may have gone through a lot to set up their business to make ends meet. Remember, Business is always a risk ! sometimes we have to face harsh realities.Dan, be brave and put this(mis)adventure behind you now . I wish you well my friend and better luck in your new job!

I don't think it would cost $300,00 though - plenty of places with licences are closing way below that. What I object to though is that us taxpayers are forking out $900 million a year for these assehole hawker patrols - like throwing old ladies off the streets for selling a few homegrown vegetables and guys like Danny just selling some decent and hygienic food. Maybe people should just look at the filthy kitchens in some of the established restaurants (mentioning no names of course!!).

The license definitely doesn't cost $300,000. There's also a number of ways to cut corners, but you need to have a basic snack license first. I'm sure Dan has considered all these factors before, and it's his choice afterall to close down Anastasia. Regarding to the hawker patrols, what can I say...., if only we had a vote to kick out those stupid idiots in the stupid government. I would have piss on the overfed hawker patrols if there wasn't a fine of $600!

well, the hawker patrols did not come here on their ow. someone blew the whistle on illegal hawkers on the main street and since then, they are here regularly.

Dan,
Given the above support of your take-away stall, your inovation on receipies, and your customer-centered raport, does the cost of a licence outweigh the return on business on Lamma?

the actual license isn't expensive, the expensive part would be to convert a residential flat into a working kitchen.

C'est la vie, another Lamma chapter is closed.

Thanks again to all the people who have showed support over the last few days by coming to the shop to buy the remaining stock that we have left. I will still be on the Island and I am sure that I will see you around.
