After another very tasty lunch there yesterday, the owner told us that they're closing this location this weekend! They'll move and hope to reopen after mid-Nov in Wang Long, somewhere between the Yan Yan store and Granny Chan's.
As this is almost half way to Hung Shing Yeh beach, they'll lose a lot of their local regulars, I'm afraid, even though the Lamma visitors will still find them on their way to the beach or the Family Trail.
But we'll be missing their tasty takeaway dinners, young coconuts... too far away in their future Wang Long location for a stopover on the way home....
Thai Thai's landlord upstairs is taking the place back and will open another Chinese café in due course.
Memories of Lamcombe being taken over by their landlords spring to mind, the landlords hoping to make more money by running it themselves but not succeeding at all so far.
Well, no more 20-people queues down back and across Back Street on weekends, waiting for their signature satays - a real money spinner at $10/stick. No more visitors littering, loitering and dripping the satay sauce all over Back Street, blocking all traffic at this bottleneck.
But even their yearly
Loy Kra Tong lantern festival celebrations in mid-Nov - when the owner and her daughters dress up like beautiful Thai princesses in stunning, gold-covered dresses, releasing floating lanterns into the sea from the YSW ferry pier - might not be celebrated by this family and their many local relatives this year, the matriarch says, as they'll be in the middle of opening their new location.
