<img src="http://www.compunicate.com/Lamma-zine/Blog/2005-09/Redstar_poster_web.gif" align=left hspace=10 vspace=4>Most of Lamma's population seems to have attended last night's debut gig by new Lamma superband Red Star Rising. They're made up of members from several other Lamma bands. Here's a first quickie review, written at almost 4am, right after the concert!

big sausage {L_WROTE}:
All I can say is it was unbelievable, I haven't heard anything like that in the 12 years I have been on Lamma - what were we listening to? It was so powerful. That's all I can say.
Amazing stuff. Just amazing.

Any more reviews and photos and video? I'll put it all together (with full credits for you, of course) into a photo gallery for the home page of this site.
Email me at info@Lamma.com.hk !

More gig reviews coming in, adding to the ones in the Lamma-zine Blog today::

tim_buctoo {L_WROTE}:
I agree with that Sausage that it was a good gig, unusual too, because it seemed to be original songs up until the end when guests took to the stage - great version of Hey Joe by Dan of The Bastards, by the way. You know, I see that guy who wears the black some nights on the 6.40 ferry and I had no idea he could play guitar like that. All the guys in that band play really well. They were very tight.

Once criticism though. The PA system in the Island Bar might be OK for pub quizzes but it ain't up to a gig like that. That guy's singing was great, but it was kind of muffled through the speakers and the further back you were, the worse it got. Not a major gripe but I thought it needed saying.

Other than that, though, a top night.

So are there any MP3s for those of us who missed it?

"Last Ferry to Lamma" sounds interesting, is it perhaps a take on "Last Train to Clarkesville"?

Yes, there should be MP3s and even video...

I've already been following up on getting some of them online - from the video guy who also did the sound at the concert...

Well, the music video of "Last Ferry to Lamma" has been downloaded 361 times by now and RSR seems to be playing live up to 4 times per week recently. All of these guys have jobs, I think, how do they do it?

Anyway, another big gig in the Deli Lamma last night. Got the pictures already and the first review from Katherine, maybe their #1 Fan?

Katherine {L_WROTE}:
The Red Star kept rising Saturday night, this time in the Deli Lamma. However, there was a moment of worry when the Deli was still virtually empty at 9.30pm. Where was the big Saturday night party crowd?

But soon after the man without black nail varnish and his band took to the stage the place was really rocking, and by midnight rolling in great party mood too. Good to see Steve belting it out again with guest comrade Hamada from Overadogma for Barbaran (excuse spelling) and other numbers.

There were encores for what have quickly become old favourites – Man from Ma On Shan, Last Ferry to Lamma and Shopping Malls, but new stuff too. Let’s Wash the Dogs is one for those real men occasionally seen sheepishly leading five preened toy dogs down the Lamma high street – what they do for love. Steve and Hugh have given us a great Lamma shaggy dog tale in this one!

Any other reviews and gig feedback?

Would Steve be kind enough to take some pictures of himself when on stage and also write a review of his own perfomance?
