No votes or feedback for the new Lamma-zine yet?

So what about Harry's first cartoon exclusively created for the Lamma-zine?
Like it? He told me today that he got some "angry looks" about it, probably from dog lovers...

I love the Teletubbies image of Everytimeagoodtime as 'The magical spinney thing' for the Lamma Windturbine... seeing as a lot of us on Lamma are a bit LaLa (or Po)!
Talking of Poo, Harry's cartoon should be fly-posted across the island! Superb.
Excellent issue Gung, and Kudos for the new advertisers.

One thing puzzled me, just what is a "biaatch"?

Oddly enough, in Google the current LZ is the second hit for that word, and many others are in German.

Ah, that's where this reference comes from! I didn't know where it came from, but just thought it sounded kind of cool. I absolutely cannot stand to watch Teletubbies for more than half a second...

But on Fertility Island, many parents are forced to watch this sap, going lala while their brain oozes out of their ears, dripping onto the carpet, their dog rushing to lick it up.
Sorry, Harry's cartoon might have a bad influence on me...

Hmmm, the first hit for Biaatch on Google is "You shoot like a goat herder...biaatch!" and the third one is something about "Psychotic Assclowns", whatever that is...
I see the Lamma-zine is in good company on Google!

No, seriously, I considered explaining it, as I have to admit not knowing the word myself before using it. But it was just copied from the poster for Diesel's party and it's more intriguing to let people guess...

According to Diesel's, it's a Filipina term for - you guessed it! - Bitch!
Kind of a slang term, not meant in a bad way, so they're inserting 1, 2, 3 or more a's into the word. It also sounds nicer, pronounced as Bee...aaatch!

Because it's quite a common and harmless word, Rose didn't mind it being used as the title of her birthday party. And did you see her dancing in the photo gallery? Wow!

But using this term in the Lamma-zine got it stuck in an indecency filter for the very first time that I know of. I got a Lamma-zine email bounced back from a subscriber in Australia:
"[WORDSCAN] This email was found to contain inappropriate content by the MIS Word Scanner, and does not meet Education Queensland's acceptable email usage policy."
I'll keep it as a badge of honour and will surely mention it in the next issue...

I've only had a chance to scan through the Zine - gotta say at this stage, I like Harry's cartoon best. Can I vote for that?

OK, now you can vote for Harry's cartoon! I've added it to the list of choices in the poll.

I'd vote for it personally, as it would definitely encourage Harry to create more cartoons for future issues!

The cartoon was great - but the story on the helipad is more important to our quality of life (literally), so i vopted for that.

Anyway, congratulations to 30 editions of Lamma-Zines!!!!

Funny enough, on Las Vegas (the "drama" series) on telly last night, the word "biatches" was featured a couple of times - there you go, the word must be gathering much international recognition...

Yes, I've heard that as well, while channel-surfing (not a satisfying activity with only two English channels), the first time I've heard the word on TV!

As always, the Lamma-zine as a trailblazer, using the latest trendy words, setting and starting new trends, hopefully!

45 definitions of "Biatch" in the Urban Dictionary! and you can add your own definition!

During last week's episode on TVB of 6ft under I realised that they blank out f**k. The sound just goes away after the f & resumes with the next word. No beep or anything else - makes following the dialog a little bit more complicated. Example: What the ... were you thinking?

They do that with all the HBO shows, like The Sopranos, and Sex and the City. I got the DVDs of the last series of the Sopranos and could hear "fucking: instead of "freaking" which they use in the dubbed version TVB show -- that was a bit of a surprise, along with a bit more nudity. Anyway, there are very cheap DVD box sets of TV shows on sale in China now, apparently legit, HK$100 more or less for 6 or 8 DVDs with a complete season. Well worth it for better quality images, no censorship, no subtitles unless you want them, no messing around with the VCR when TVB puts it on at 1:30 AM.

Apart from the indecency blanking, with thanks to Pearl, isn't that just the toppest of all shows?

Makes me wonder if TVB will ever get Queer as Folk, and if so, how badly it will be editted
(P.S. I mean how much will be blanked/beeped/cut out, as oppose to commenting on the lack of editing skills)

It might have been ATV, but a year or so ago they had an Ally McBeal episode where Ally and Lucy Liu had a "LESBIAN KISS!!!". They promoted the hell out of that for weeks in advance, but when it was finally shown almost all of that scene had been cut. Hypocrites. Similarly for Basic Instinct. They'll show anything, play on the controversial aspects, but gut it to senselessness.

A nice sub-plot on the Sopranos is trying to reconstruct the original dialogue from the lip movements and not be distracted by the over-dubbed family-acceptable version.

My favorite was when Tony gets someone by the throat against a wall and says "Just do it, malefactor!" The lip-synch was almost perfect!

At Sopranoland there are some transcripts, only for Season 2 though.

That's a great one! I should have used that one as a title in the last Lamma-zine: "The Sweetest Malefactor on Lamma".

But it doesn't have the same ring to it as my published version...

Which gets us back to twisted pronunciations like biaatch, who you might meet at a ho-down, perhaps, talking shite.

Ho-down, as in a gathering of folks merrily dancing to country tunes in their cowboy/cowgirl outfits? Yeeeee-haaaaa!
