Much as I want to keep involved with lamma.com, both Superblue and I are living far from Lamma now. I’m in the Middle East; she’s in the UK.

I reckon it would be a good idea to get at least one new moderator for the Parenting on Lamma Forum. Ideally, someone who’s living on Lamma and therefore knows what’s going on for kids and parents on the island. This way the forum could be more active and a better resource for you all. I'll still be around to help if you need me.

Would anyone like to volunteer for the role of moderator of this Parents’ Forum?

May I suggest 一島民 to be the moderator? not sure if s/he is a parent but it's good to have someone who really spends time on Lamma.com and cares about the island :D

Some time has passed since that topic was created, but if you are still looking for a moderator, I can help out. Ran a phpBB forum before, been on Lamma for about 6 years and even got a 1.5yo daughter - guess I'm actually kinda over-qualified. :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:

I can spend a few minutes every day and a bit more once or twice a week.

Contact Lamma-gung.

The parenting forum has gone very quiet. It would be good if you could stimulate some activity.

Stimulate? :x Activity?

Thought I'd get away with banning users, deleting posts, being feared and respected and stuff... living off bribes and donations... now it sounds like I'm not even gonna get a "MODERATOR" t-shirt.

Feared? No. Respected? Not at all.
After being a mod here for several years I've made many enemies and had entire threads devoted to my bastardy.
The ratio of thanks to vicious personal attacks is about 1:100.

But Lamma-Gung does sometimes share the spoils -- occasional meals in lieu of payment for ads.

Hmmmm, with this kind of attitude you might be best suited for the Fight Club which also has been moderator-less for several years now. But it's become inactive without a moderator, so it would take some time to revive it.

But your talents might be well-suited for this Parenting forum.
And Alan is right; as this forum is non-commercial (unlike the Lamma-zine supported by ads and sponsors) moderatorship is an unpaid volunteer position. But it shouldn't take more than a few minutes every day or two, basically just keeping an eye on any new posts in your (and other) forums and posting yourself occasionally to keep the topics active and going, answering questions, encouraging members to post more, maybe even start up a new topic or poll occasionally....

And yes, you WILL have the ultimate power of "banning users, deleting posts, being feared and respected and stuff... living off bribes and donations" (not). But if you overdo it, I have the ULTIMATE POWER to ban moderators, delete their posts, disrespect them publicy and confiscate their bribes!

I like the idea of a "Lamma.com.hk MODERATOR" T-shirt! As I haven't done a new poster for Lamma's walls in a while, maybe I could do that together with very exclusive MODERATOR T-shirts. But a more generic "Forum member of Lamma.com.hk" (any better slogans?) T-shirt might sell better at the Lamma Fun Day... or not.

Wow, that sounds pretty dangerous and disheartening! I haven't had the same experience at all and my ratio seems to be the other way round, at 100:1.
The last of very few enemies I made, usually by banning some severely misbehaving forum members, happened years ago. No more voice mail threat to beat me up on Main Street in a long time, fortunately.

More free meals, bottles of wine or concert tickets for our moderators seem to be in order! I do occasional Lamma-zine advertising barter with some local restaurants and a few other clients, eager to share these spoils with our moderators and major Lamma-zine content contributors.

a true front-line mod (good with knives and forks, upgraded with cybernetic implants)

probably admin or site-owner (being feared and respected and stuff, living off bribes and donations)

By the way, something's going on at Hans Andersen Club. Veils being put up, bicycles gathering... how exciting! I will sneak over after nightfall and see if I can get some blurry, dark photos of it.

Lammanaut, after meeting you and your family in person, I deem you fit to be a "Parenting Forum Moderator-in-Probation". See the new official title above your avatar on the left of your posts.

This means that you've not got the right yet of "banning users, deleting posts, being feared and respected and stuff... living off bribes and donations", but have to prove your worth as moderator of this forum before getting to all that fun stuff. The probationary period will last for a few weeks only, depending on feedback, till you'll get upgraded to full moderator privileges within this and maybe additional forums.

Proceed with moderating, please. This means responding to posts, but even more important starting new topics and discussions, stimulating forum members to post in this forum.

If anyone else said that to me, I'd probably punch him straight in the face. Or kick, if I could lift my leg that high. I might also forgive you for disclosing the fact that I have a family. Pretty soon, actually... maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, I shall strife to deem myself worthy of this prestigious position, by stimulating forum members and diverting all bribes and donations to Lamma-Gung  Wish I was back in the 90's when mods and admins were truly worshiped. Of course we had our own t-shirts back then. For the time being, a Yoda shirt must suffice. It is the world of nano-technology.

Now witness the true power of a Parenting Forum Moderator-in-Probation! (changed avatar)

And is there a specific number of people one has to offend in order to be admitted to the fight club?

Anyone who requests can be made a member.
You are one now.

Obnoxious posts are relegated there by moderators where they can be responded to without restraint.
Anything goes except smilies, which are banned by the FC moderator.

It's empty now, since all posts there expire after 30 days, to prevent people rekindling old arguments.

Thanks Alan, it was a dark day for the rebellion. It has seen the emergence of a new Parenting Forum Moderator-in-probation and his ascent (or descent) into the FC.

btw why were smileys banned? Aren't there angry ones?

Did former Fight Club Granola Eater move back to Lamma, after years away, or is he just visiting? Caught a few glimpses of him far away weeks ago...

We're still looking for a Fight Club moderator, by the way....
No, not you, Lammanaut! Complete your probation successfully first!

I have to create another account then. And I was actually hoping to retain the "-in-probation" extension forever. It makes it a long and illustrious title, much like "Skeletor-on-Steroids".

Dear Skeletor-on-Steroids,

The full title is actually:
Official Court Moderator of the Parenting Forum-in-probation, Under Close Supervision & Intensive Scrutiny by the High & Mighty Senior Forum Administrator.

Long and impressive enough for you?

Beg your pardon?

Impractical as it wouldn't fit onto an s-sized t-shirt. So I'd rather stay with the short version. It is easier to pronounce for the common folk and I could actually remember it myself. But I highly appreciate your good will to boost my ego.

Well, it might not fit onto your tiny S-size T-shirt, but it seems to fit into this forum!

See your new title above your avatar! Hah, our longest and most illustrious "Official Court..." title ever anointed so far!

It's even better than the formerly most popular "Official Court Village Fool", imposed onto the unwilling, recalcitrant recipient via an online vote by our members, during this forum's ancient and mysterious past history.

By the way, the "Official Court Village Fool" title is currently also vacant, looking for a new title holder. Might you be interested? There's no limit to the number of honorary, illustrious titles one member can proudly claim in this forum!

I hope all of this is enough to boost your ego even further.... not that this would be necessary...
