| Every time I go by Pak Kok on the ferry it occurs to me that the village is way too exposed to marauding pirates, burglars and so forth. What it needs is a fort with cannons covering the landing spots. The need is so obvious, I don't understand why the government hasn't thought of this. |

| I know this thread is spread over a couple of years, but I will be moving to Lamma soon and am more than a little concerned at what I'm reading. Have things calmed down, or is crime something that I need to be worried about with a young family? |

Perhaps I exaggerated a bit. As far as I know Lamma has never had a problem with pirates. Cheung Chau and Aberdeen were known as pirates' dens about two to four centuries ago though, so I'd stay away from them. |

| I can live with the pirates, I was rather more concerned about people breaking into occupied houses on a seemingly regular basis. Is this still going on? This is a serious question, as I will be relocating to Lamma in a couple of months. I'm sure it's no worse than your average London neighbourhood, but most of HK is so safe for expats that it makes you soft. |

| I'm in the greater Yung Shue Wan area, and I really doubt you could find a safer area anywhere in Hong Kong. I say that after having lived in three separate areas of HK Island before moving to Lamma. |

What about Lamma's most famous son, Chow Yun-fat, playing the most famous South China Seas pirate in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean 2", to be released soon?
That pirate had a hideout on Cheung Chau Island and Chow's worldwide fame might attract some real-life pirates to his home island, Lamma!
Wait, thinking about it, the pirates are here already and some of them are called "landlords" these days... _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

Talking about the HK pirate "Cheung Po Chai", apart from the famous hideout at Cheung Chau, there was another hideout located on Lamma Island! The location was, however, destroyed during the construction of power station during 80's. _________________ Where am I? |

I have lived in the new territorries and three different districts of kowloon. i have never felt endangered anywhere in hk (except my briefcase was stolen in the crowd of mong kok once). lamma seems to me the most peaceful and safest place i have ever seen. maybe some of the dogs here are illegal immigrants, though...
a nice place to live, hereby recommended again _________________ This post has been electronically created and is valid without signature. |

Hi from Hanoi. Sorry to hear about the break-ins. all this stuff about IIs always strikes me as a load of old..tho.
why would IIs leave yuan behind?
When i had all that crap from Dominique, the vile frenchman (i hear he's making Lantau's life a misery these days), the police were good at listening it out with overagitated expates, but better at drinking tea....
long may your garden bloom & prosper.Pak Kokkiians,

A friend of mine in Pak Kok had her flat broken into during the middle of the day about 2 weeks ago. She was on holiday and looks like one too many people knew. It must be a friend of someone who lives there, otherwise they wouldn't have had any idea no one would be there.
Don't assume it is so safe and be careful who you tell you are going on holiday |
