After the great success of the list of "Signs you've lived on Lamma for too long", let's do another, more positive list!
We all moved to Lamma for many different reasons and the place has changed a lot over the last few years, so this should be interesting.
We can do a list of what we hate about living here later...
What we like about living on Lamma
Walking down Main Street, stopping to chat with friends & acquaintances, catching up on the latest local news.
Living close to nature, watching the constant struggle between nature & civilisation, going back and forth.
Live & let live; nobody really gives a damn about how you live and how you make your living. _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

I agree with all that Lamma-Gung mentioned plus the followings:-
You can walk anywhere, and there's no vehicle on the island (at least when I lived there).
The hills. I miss the hills. No better exercise than walking up and down those hill. _________________ my blog-a mother is a necessity in all inventions

Getting off of the ferry on the way home from work and feeling the weight of the day lift off of your shoulders as you walk down the pier.
Fresh air.
The birds that perch on the boats in the harbour. _________________ tree-hugging eurotrash pikey |

- Pointing and laughing at tourists who cack themselves at the sight of a 3 month old puppy 100 metres away on a leash which isn't even looking at them.
- No Park n Shop, Wellcome, MacDonalds, Cafe de Coral, Sample King, Watsons, Orange, Fortress, Citibank, Hang Seng bank, UA cinema, Giordano or Blockbusters. _________________ Beware the fury of a patient man |

Pubs with loads of friends in them.
Pubs with loads of friends in them on a T8 day
Flip flops/bare feet and shorts
Becoming a parent and suddenly discovering a whole new group of very nice people
Seeing freinds I was raving with a few years ago pushing pushchairs too.
Smile and a nod from other lammarites on Central streets, even if you don't know them
Planning to do 6 months on lamma/6 months on the city side and still being here after 7 years with no inclination to move over
There's nothing better than a sunny weekday, not working, staying on the island and wandering the paths without the crowds
Trying to explain to people back home for years what an ace place it is and then watching them finally realise when they step off the ferry and walk through the village for the first time.
Always knowing a supplier. _________________ And a rinky dinky doo to you too! |

Always leaving the front door open.
Kids walking 50 metres to school.
The bars.
Dragonboats.
The beach.
Sunday afternoon barbeques that go on all night.
Kids are safe.
Picking up the paper on a Sunday morning, and watching the clubbers coming home.
Watching football on Saturday night.
Friendships that will last forever.
After 10 years on Lamma I've returned the the UK, I have no regrets about leaving HK it's Lamma I miss. |

I just got this growing list mentioned on Radio 3 by Pete & Steve this morning, by sending them an email promoting this website.
They also quoted several of our "Signs that you've lived on Lamma for too long" on air and referred to Nick the Bookman and Mr DickStock by name.
But now we need more reasons for this new list:
- Being part of a community (offline AND online).
- Living in a clean & green environment, working at home on 6Mb Broadband while listening to the radio.
- Most of the places I'm eating or shopping at know me by name. _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |
