Sounds nice except that it could not reach "difficult remote parts of the island" at all in that thing. And unless they just turned on the siren and knocked over all the pedestrians, they would be much slower than by bike for those places they could get to.

They'll be trying to avoid Main Street and other really narrow paths whenever possible.

Which leaves what? The cable roads?

How often do they need to "move arrested persons" anyway?
Let them walk, or put them in a wheel chair and push them-- it would be faster and safer for all.

Nice idea for the city, or villages (like Mui Wo) with full size roads, but totally useless here.

The new dune buggy-style fire vehicles are much more suitable if they need to get somewhere fast, or go to "remote" areas.
It would make a real "green" impact if they had electric VVs, something like this they might use once a month is purely symbolic.

I'm totally against having this wretched vehicle on Lamma. It's totally unnecessary and a complete waste of money. The ambulancemen need an ambulance for obvious reasons (transporting sick patients). The fire brigade obviously need vehicles to carry fire-fighting equipment.

We have enough to put up with at the moment with VVs and bikes and to add yet another vehicle on Lamma would be lunacy especially with all the drainage works going on. Some time-wasting mandarin locked away in Albert Road obviously dreamt this one up to prove how "green" Darth Bow-tie's government is.

It would be more to the point if the police did some real policing around the island (controlling speeding VVs and cyclists without lights for starters) instead of sitting on their fat arses playing mahjong in the Hung Shing Ye police station. Even the last time there was a friendly punch-up between local fishermen at the bar opposite Banyan Bay, the little wimps had to call out a fully-armed riot squad from Hong Kong. They're a joke and they certainly don't deserve an electric car.

Oh and if you call a policeman for any legitimate reason and they generally can't find any house on Lamma too.

To me it seems a pointless waste of taxpayers money, and completely unnecessary. Ambulances and Fire Engines are different for obvious reasons. Why on earth do we need a Police Car?

I agree with Alan, that the car can't really get anywhere quicker than a bicycle.

The only real road where it's practical for a mini car would be cable road, but I can't see it having much use there. We have paths here. Totally impractical for yet another vehicle.

If an 'arrested' person has to walk all the way from the Police Station to the ferry pier... well... what can I say. At least they are not put in stocks and pelted with tomatoes as in the olden days.

I can just see it now.... a fight in the village between four people (let's just imagine shall we).. along comes a Police car and around 20 Police Officers (weekends only)... ..... who on earth gets to decide which arrested persons and which Police get to ride in the car??? Or will it just ride backwards and forwards picking everyone up like a taxi service?

I'm sure our boys in blue are fit enough to cycle or walk from the Police Station to the ferry pier. If I am... they should be!!

Sorry.... I'm not a fan of this new vehicle.

I'm open minded and am not opposed to progress,.. but have not heard a decent reason yet why Lamma needs this.

But there must be other creative uses for this eye-catching electric car! It's far from underused as a just a police car right now, I think.

I'm all for 'eco friendly', and one of the things I love about Lamma is that there are many great groups looking after the environment, and many great groups looking after the animals. These groups consist of local indigenous Lamma Chinese/ HK Chinese/Mainland Chinese/ and International residents.) We are all trying to make a good home.

I'm proud to live in such a unique place like this. It's nice after a zillion years living in HK.. that there is a community where making as much money as one can, regardless of the consequences, is NOT the ultimate objective as in most parts of HK. A quality of life, a good environment for our future children and ourselves is!

As for the car..... I'd rather the money was spent on 'real' eco projects.

So..... let's start again....

Apparently the car 'could be coming to Lamma' as it's eco friendly, and it's going to benefit Lamma people and surrounding environment. Am I right??

My opinion...... I can think of many other ways that this money can be spent which would be good for the environment...

I'm sure other forum users could find where the money could go too... and again... IMHO,.. I cannot see how a new eco friendly Police car can benefit the community.

And let's get real,.. it's more eco friendly NOT to have another vehicle than what it is than to have one.

Lets have ' solar powered lighting' on Lamma. We have the wind turbine... let's go to the next level.

Let's set up a new 'eco environment initiative programme' for businesses etc...

This is just for starters.

I'm sure that the Lamma Green Group,.. has so many more suggestions where money could be spent.

And residents here..... that make this island what it is.

So... the Government has some money for eco projects... OK... what do we need Smile

Many things. Now comes my gripe.....

I'm sick of walking through a mud puddle every day outside Yan Yan's store on the way to the ferry pier. (10 years it's been like this you say Alan) Why on earth can't the Government sort this out?? It's the only bloody path to take if you want to go further .... (unless you do a long detour into the hills) How can this be an issue. It's a main path on Lamma so it's the Governments responsibility to sort it out!

I'm sick of dodging VV's every day.

I'm sick of landlords building 'illegal structures' and constant illegal drilling on Sunday's, and NOTHING is done. Even a complaint to the local council.

I'm sick of illegally dumping of construction waste, fridges and general rubbish on Government land, and filling in of ponds. And NOTHING is done.

I'm sick of having a representative on this Island that does NOT address the suggestions/complaints of most residents on the island.

If the Police are reading this,.. then great. Would be great if the local legislative councillor could read this too.

After many years in HK, I'm proud of Hong Kong's Boys in Blue (Police).. and I think they do a damn fine job. However, Lamma needs many things.. but as far as I'm concerned, a Police car is not a necessity.

Phew..... OK... got all of that off my chest! LOL Smile

Put an electric oven in the back of it, and you would have the perfect pizza delivery vehicle for Lamma!

I am glad that the police are actually paying attention to the forum. Therefore I wish to also add It would seem that it's main purpose would be to slowly chauffeur police in air conditioning rather than riding their bikes or walking.

Although, with the hot weather I understand the need for comfort, cars are not suitable to Lamma due to obstruction of the road, and they are not green under any circumstance.

It is a shame that the police are provided with such sub-standard bicycles - or are they expected to supply their own? Surely the money could have been used to provide the police with quality, well maintained bicycles which are therefore easier to ride (and safer) such as the Police Trek bicycles used in the USA. They are efficient, much more 'green' and quicker on lamma's footpaths.
Here's the link for reviews by police on their bikes - Police look at this and lobby for them!

What a terribly ecologically unsound and pointless waste of money. Way to increase the carbon footprint of the police! What sort of rem-tard on free lunches thought that was a good idea? Whoever it was should immediately be put into care and have their parents put on some sort of register.
