The Lamma ferry service when considering the population of Lamma is good and reasonable priced. (Apart from that there is not one late night sailing.)

This is what spoils it:

1. The people who put their shoes on the seats; shoes transfer the dirt from the ground to the seats then to our clothes. Unacceptable!

2. The groups of 12-16 year old students ripping up the seats, writing on them and leaving all their rubbish on the floor. Most of the kids seem to belong to the ex-pat community!

3. The “Play School” ship from 3 until 4.30. Its havoc on these ships, little kids running around, standing on the seats, rocking the back of the seats, screaming and shouting. It would seem that most have adults to supervise them who unfortunately seem more interested in chatting to their friends. Kids need to be able to chat and enjoy themselves BUT NOT to the extent that it disturbs other passengers; that unfair. Further it’s also dangerous for the children if the ship hits a wave and start rolling.

If this continues the ferry service they will just put in hard seats and raise the fares to cover the damage; then everyone will complain.

They certainly are. At least for the next two months.

Photos submitted by a regular ferry passenger. He writes:

"I was on the 10.30 ferry this morning and saddened to see the graffiti in the back row of seats on the upper deck getting out of control.

Why doesn't the ferry company either catch these vandals via CCTV, and prosecute them, then make them clean up the mess. The graffiti has been growing there for a few years and is obviously school kids. Why the ferry company has not removed it by now is a mystery to me."

Responses we can soon expect:

Don't start a war with the locals. It will backfire.

You're new here. Don't pretend to be shocked. Where you come from, this stuff actually covers your house.

Live and let live, that's the Lamma style.

You can always move to another seat. This is just the back row, starboard, on only one of the boats.

If you don't like it, leave. Try DB and see if you like their very clean little toy town, including the cost of the graffiti free ferry. La Costa, precisely.

Could you take better photos? I want to try more of those phone numbers.

The visiting art professor:

This is better than Banksy!! Don't touch it; it's a folk art form. These kids need to express themselves. If you supress it, their energy will have a negative focus, and they will turn into vandals.

The visiting religious leader:

On Lamma, everyone gets the ferry they deserve.

The visiting right-wing economist:

What do you expect? There's only one company working the route. Try competition. Start your own ferry company.

The visiting PR consultant:

Needs more voice overs saying in a stilted plummy twang:
"We hope you have a pleasant journey."

Thanks Kalistofa, you've refined the art of criticising contributors to the Forum before they've made a post.

You're very keen to discourage, thanks.

News from our ferry correspondent:

"Thank you very much for your help. I was amazed this morning to see one of the sea crew out wiping seats! I wondered if this was an amazing coincidence, but smiled thinking how we might have made a difference for all travellers! I will check that link out and submit it to them also."

Pure coincidence or is somebody in the ferry company actually reading this Lamma Ferries forum? I wonder...

Please don't be discouraged from posting, poilkoop. It would be out of character.

If you are genuinely discouraged, I can only refer you to the culture you clearly appreciate, the German culture, and the wonderful word "schadenfreude."

Philosopher and sociologist Theodor Adorno defined schadenfreude as, “largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another."

poilkoop,

Here's a second word for you to check out, this time in an English but Internet-savvy dictionary:

"troll"

Keep on "guessing" LOL, and please enjoy your time in these forums.

"atrocious grammar" Wow, couldn't possibly be a member of the expat community, then.

Looks like yet another case of stereoty-peng

The trailing finger of atrocious irony leaves its snot smears on the seat you have vacated.

In the distance, something backfires. A roach lurches from the ferry window and threatens your best T-shirt. You squish it with your Blackberry. The air-con fails. 370 passengers sweat secretly aboard Sea Supremo. A VV fails to stop and kills a snake. A door slams, a dog barks, a baby cries. There is proof of life. Your freedom is negotiable, but your family refuses to pay up.

Next year, next year, you promise you will move to DB.

That's my main beef with the ferries. Bloody great cockroaches crawling over the signs certifying that the last cockroach extermination was carried out 2 days ago. Either Rentokil suck or there's some dirty dirty people riding that ferry.

speaking on a slightly different subject, is anyone experiencing really rocky ferries that are making you sick or nauseous? Never had it before but now it just seems neverending. I know the weather is very blustery but i've lived here for years and this is the first time I've experienced this. Sorry if it seems a bit soppy to say but i do live on this island and have to take the ferries everyday, so just wanted to know if anyone is feeling the same. And yes i do know we are subject to the elements...

I think it's just blusteriness. The Macau ferry was absolutely hellish on Monday night, a whole hour of non-stop leaping and crashing.
