|
"Charming" quote by columnist Andrew Sun in yesterday's SCMP:
"Waves of trash wash up on Lamma beaches...no, we're not referring to the drunks on the weekend".
Nick the Bookman got mightily upset about it and sent me this diatribe for publication:
"Andrew Sun? What is this pudley's* problem?
"Why does he feel the need to have these niggly little digs at Lamma and its residents every couple of months? Did he once try to move here and get turned down because he's too low-rent?
"Latest example is today 26/06/08. Thursday think tank, #4:
"Waves of trash wash up on Lamma beaches...no, we're not referring to the drunks on the weekend".
"This man is not funny. He sucks up remorselessly with his A-list column of who's invited whom to free drinks etc. Doesn't seem to have the clout to attend these gigs either.
"Basically, he's a bottom-feeding gossip monger. I've been told by mutual acquaintances (friends of mine, not his) that he once printed a story he overheard from one of his softball teammates. The story was told in confidence. He broke it and also NAMED the source, much to the man's embarrassment.
"I sent him a small piece on the Oscars last year (when they kept saying "Infernal Affairs" was a Japanese, not a HK movie). Didn't really expect it to get published. Didn't expect to be completely ignored either. No response, no class and no manners. How do you cultivate sources if you're rude to them?
"I think he'd be better off working with Fox Network News. I once described the Fox mob as "the semen, snot, spittle, sweat and skid stains on the silk sheets of serious journalism". Andrew Sun's dribbly little secretions seem to fit right in there.
"And doesn't his little photograph look awfully smug and arrogant? The man's a peasant. I'm surprised he doesn't have the byline "Phil Space" (thanks Private Eye).
"So, more importantly. Who's gonna be on The Great Dubyahoo's Presidential Pardons List? I'll stop here, because that's a whole new rant in the making...
* Pudley is American slang for a penis, only smaller. It is not a compliment." _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

Let the restaurant sponsor it.
They advertise "sea view" and cover half the beach with their concrete platform and pour effluent straight into the bay. |

They've got a little caterpillar tractor at HSY to move the trash collected from the beach. But they still bag the driftcrap manually. |

Yes, let's not forget Tannery Beach!
I've just received this photo and appeal:

Sadly Tannery Beach has been devastated by rubbish, I cannot begin to describe how bad it is!
I will go tomorrow - Sat, Jun 28 - and pick up rubbish bags from Power Station beach. If anyone wants to join me and Caspian in the clean-up, we would be very happy!
All the best for a cleaner world!

Does somebody have the local number of the FEH Dept. office handy, so Stine and friends could get rubbish bags and support directly? I'd like to add it to our long-time Bilingual Yellow Pages on the home page.
Also, which Lamma beaches does the FEH Dept. clean up regularly and/or on demand, besides the public beaches and Power Station beach? _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |
