Andrew Sun writes in his "Hollywood East" column today in the SCM Post, about films being filmed in HK, for example sci-fi triller Push:
"They play "expats" with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities, hiding from a clandestine US government agency - sounds like everyone I know on Lamma Island."
Just another one of the Post's frequent cheap shots at Lammaites, dissing us because it's so easy to dig up ancient clichés, or could we actually look at this in a positive and creative way?
Superpowers on Lamma? "Heroes" set on Lamma? I've just enthusiastically devoured the entire first season of "Heroes" on rented DVD and I'm hooked now, reviving sweet childhood/teenage memories of enjoying American superhero comic books.
I wouldn't mind some "telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities" myself, but I'll be content for now with my current awesome "superpower" of being able to smythe and zap any member of this forum into smithereens! But as a benevolent superbeing, eh, site administrator, I use my power only very rarely and only against evil supervillains - which are pretty rare on Lamma, admittedly...
What superpowers do Lammaites have or would like to have? _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

Current superpowers of Lammaites:
Spinoza1112 has the awesome power of VERBOSITY which can put even the most awake and wired Lammaite to sleep within seconds with the power of his written words alone. His pen is truly mightier than the sword as he can put entire crowds to deep, dreamless sleep in one single display of his mighty power, for example in forums like this one!
One "little drawback" to his power is that it only works with his written words but not with his spoken words. So he has to get his numerous adversaries to actually read his words, not an easy task in this age of aliteracy (people who can read but choose not to, getting their information from other sources.)

| I'd like to be able to turn into a vapour so that I could get off and onto the ferry without the usual scrum that spoils a great way to start and end the day. |

Would like to turn Carlsberg into beer, but it requires a great deal of magic and probably de-stabilizes the time-space-continuum.
I think glowing in the dark might prove quite helpful in the insufficiently illuminated streets of Lamma. Also helps to attract mosquitos (for those who enjoy it).
Very powerful, too - the ability to summon a ferry after 2am. Maybe works once or twice a year, depending on star constellations. Requires obscure rituals. |

| The power to will the buildings on Main and Back Streets to, with incredible vacuum force, suck the weekend tourists up against their walls, only briefly, so that I might move through the village at a decent clip. Upon my passing, the walls would release them to resume their ogling, eating, and painfully slow crawl. |
