One of my favorite places in YSW!
It's open from something like 6am till around 7pm, selling way over 50 sandwich/drink sets in the morning, being the main breakfast/lunch provider to our office workers, together with Green Cottage...
Great juices, hot dogs, baked potatoes with any topping, but also salads. My current lunch favorites:
Tuna Fish Croissant and Cream Cheese Blueberry Bagel!
Cheapest fruits ($2) & soft drinks ($5) of any restaurant I know; and very friendly, professional service from hotel-trained Ah-Can.
Great people-watching at this cross-section of main Street and Back Street, when sitting inside. See my "Watching Lamma Passing By..." story.
Below are a few ad posters I created for their displays recently, just as a little friendly favor:

| Whenever I walk pass that road, I always stop by for a Mango-Coconut milk drink for $15. And to go with a $8 saliva-teasing-as-French-kiss-beef-satay from the opposite shop. The toll adds up to $23, pretty expensive walk for this humble dog. Can somebody advise how I can walk to the beach from the main road without using that road leading to Pizza Milano? Appreciate! |

If there was an award for 'The Happiest Man on Lamma', the guy who works at this place would win it hands down. Early in the morning, going to the ferry, hungover and pissed off, I think he is a better picker-upper than the coffee he serves. Mango coconut juice sounds good, shall try it if it is being recommended. _________________ Beware the fury of a patient man |

Norseman,
Hahahahahaha, you're completely right!
In fact, I'm going to print out this forum with your comments and show it to him right now, on my way to town!
My good friend Can & his wife Winnie are indeed cheerful people. It makes such a difference in the restaurant business, and it even gets a sometimes grumpy guy like me to create some ad posters for him for free!
It's hard to imagine how he stays so cheerful as he gets up at around 4am, preparing all the sandwiches, cakes & stuff for the morning office crowds passing by after 6am...
He's great to talk to as well, but catch him after the morning sandwich run, when he has lots of time to chat. I've been trying for a while now to get him to visit Lamma.com.hk... |

Can & Winnie are true animal lovers too! Just look at the number of dogs and cats who love to go into his shop for treats, or just a shade from the sun. Can loves them all. _________________ Learn more about the Lamma Animal Welfare Centre |

|

Tropicana must be the best spot to watch pretty ladies in the morning!
Amazing fact, confirmed by Ah-Can in Tropicana:
About 85% of his very numerous customers in the morning (6-8:30am) are FEMALE!.
They're picking up one of the about 15 types of sandwiches & coffee/tea/fruit juice ($20), power-dressed and in a hurry on their way to the ferry to the office.
MOST of the customers are not Chinese, but many other Western & Asian nationalities.
Many of them are very pretty, and Ah-Can has his ways of making them smile...
(I'm allowed to watch, as Lamma-Po is watching with me occasionally during breakfast. Ah-Can was thinking of charging us admission...)
I wonder why, but you can see it for yourself. Often there are 5-10 female customers in a row.
And in Aroy Thai most of the customers are male, often served by a Thai woman... _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

let's see if ah-can goes on leave for a couple of days and the lovely mrs ah-can takes over, will the demography of their patrons change? perhaps then, lamma-po would be there every morning? _________________ Learn more about the Lamma Animal Welfare Centre |

Yes, she might! And you, dearest e, would surely join her, no?
Two pretty girls sitting there, hooting and whistling at the guys buying their breakfasts!
That might be GREAT for Mrs. Ah-Can's business, attracting even more guys! _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

I've found out what's really attracting so many people to Tropicana!
It's Barney, the cute, caramel-colored dog with the droopy eyes and kid-friendly manner! So many people cannot walk by without greeting and petting him, it seems. It's really amazing! If I'd be THAT popular...
It's not even Ah-Can's dog, he belongs to Golding of the former Golding bathroom appliances shop, now home to Emily's Ice-cream Parlor.
The only fee he charges for attracting the crowds and being the mascot of Tropicana is an occasional snack! _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

Having a peek into the new dessert fridge outside Tropicana...
The strawberry and blueberry mousses are my favourites, even though I haven't tried all of these $15 choices yet.
Chinese customers seem to prefer the mango and chocolate mousses, according to Ah-Can. _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |
