So the rumour is that Dan has sold Aroy Thai.

True?

Anyone know details of what will replace it?

Wow, that rumour is several months old by now.

Handover to a British couple on Aug 1, 2005. They'll keep running it as is, but surely will make some welcome changes and upgrades, like finally trying to get rid of the stalker who's spending day & night in front of the place...

Besides running & upgrading the Lamma Gourmet, Dan & Geng will put even more energy into their resort & restaurant north of Phuket.

I don't get out much.

How could they do that (legally)?

Upgrading? I thought he was running it into the ground before closing it. City'super took its market. Now he doesn't need the freezer and storage space for the Aroy I can't see it earning its rent.

Aparently, they kicked two people (who I'll refer to as John H and Frank P for reasons of confidentiality) out because they'd "Had enough". Was this because they were worried that there wouldn't be enough left for themselves? Perhaps they could make a feature of the stalker and dress her up in traditional English costume as I hear it's going to be an English pub.

I wonder if they are going to change the name of the bar, if so I have a suggestion for them " The Ginger Mullett "
Any other ideas?

New owners, so the ratings poll of Aroy Thai has been reset to zero and you can vote again now.

The same will be done to other restaurant polls for places that have changed management recently, giving them all a new chance for fresh reviews & ratings.

Just saw this poster on the walls.
Does this mean Aroy Thai has officially been renamed into "The Corner Pin"? No sign up yet, I believe?
Well, the name change has been rumoured for half a year now, ever since Pete & Mavis took over and stopped serving Thai food.

The take-away options look interesting and very tempting. Got to try them very soon! We'll have to do another food review one of these days, comparing the several take-aways in Yung Shue Wan...

The Corner Pin seems to be the only local take-away that actually ever changes its menu. Most welcome for frequent take-away diners, like myself.

It's a shame they don't do any beef dishes.

Ayuh- all they do is veggie food!

Sounds like an airline stewardess- chicken or beef?, chicken or beef?, chicken or beef?

It always confused me that "The Corner Bar" wasn't actually on a corner. Now we have "The Corner Pin"; also not on a corner. Meanwhile Dino's/Y2K/Rick's IS on a corner and none of the owners have chosen to capitalise on that.

Less than a year after Dan sold Aroy Thai, it's been taken over by somebody different again, Cathi of the Island Bar, formerly running the Lamma Bistro for a few months when it was a tapas place.

The new unofficial name "The Corner Pin" never became official, as the registration and the sign outside still say "Aroy Thai" till today.

On July 1st, this Saturday, it's supposed to become the "Banyan Bay Cafe" under Cathi's enthusiastic, initiative leadership. Let's hope she'll make some real improvements. Lamma-zine interview coming up soon after the opening, I hope.

Will there be an opening party or something? Free booze for everybody?

There's a monthly Crepe Night in BBC now. I've missed it so far as it's always announced on such short notice and only on the ferry pier wall which I do not pass every day.

Who's tried the crepes and would like to tell us about them? It's been years since I've had a really good French crepe...

Enough is enough already. The menus still say 'Corner Pin' , the beans are not Heinz, the sausages are BAD and the staff are depressed. And the overall price is ridiculous. Forget eating here but drink your heart out!

Just a little bit more information to expand on the above.

Canadian James Glatzmeyer to all who know him has a very good reputation for both his culinary know how and for always sourcing the very best quality products, he also is a dab hand at BBQ with years of experience, many will remember his famous BBq nights when Dan James owned Arroy Thai. We are both pleased and proud to have him as a specialist guest chef, wielding his tongs every Thursday night.

Our aim is to provide high quality food in a relaxed friendly environment as we hope those who attended last weeks event will testify to. Our menu will remain limited with the emphasis on steak and ribs. Service will be from 7pm till ten apologies to latecomers but James has an early start on Fridays. Unfortunately for the immediate future we are offering no take away option.

Tonights menu is:

BBQ'd Baby Back Pork Ribs
Us Black Angus Strip Sirloin
US Black Angus Choice Rib Eye
BBQ'd Salmon with a Lemon Cream Sauce

All the above are served with Mashed Potato, Green Beans and Carrots.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Had a steak on Thursday and it was delicious. Mashed potatoes are top-notch, too.
