FINALLY, after a two-year wait, The Full Monty fish & chips shop has opened last night, Saturday, May 28!
Nicknamed the Chip Chop Shop as there's no signage up yet, just a deep blue wall. Two girls are serving up a range of deep-fried foods.
So who's tried it already? I hear the fish is great, as expected? Let's hear from all you fish & chips experts out there! _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day

fish is pretty good but the batter tasted like peanut butter so i had to peel it off. is that coz they're using some sort of nut oil instead of fat?
anyway, i'll be a repeat visitor |

The fish is good - and I didn't find the batter tasted of peanut butter?
Disappointing crinkle-cut oven chips though - why not fresh home-made chips? No mushy peas or other extras available.
It took nearly 2 years for this place to open - plenty of time to get some peas in, surely????
I will go back but I'll probably wait till they've got their act together a bit more. |

He might be a happy customer, eating there three times a day and doesn't want to move too far away from his new, favourite restaurant? _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

| He doesn't look like he eats three times a month, never mind three times a day. |

Yet again another Lamma restaurant / shop completely fucks up by opening when they're clearly not ready..
I agree with Gargoyle. After waiting 2 years or whatever before opening, what is the point of opening with half a menu and shitty oven chips. Where's the extras (pickled eggs, pickled onions; no mushy peas - FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!) Who do they think their customers are? People who don't know what a proper fish and chip shop should be like. DO THE OWNERS EVEN KNOW WHAT ONE SHOULD BE LIKE?? (maybe they should pay a quick visit to the Chippy in Central to at least get an idea).
If they're going to sell kebabs then why haven't they got them sorted already. TBA TBA - FO!
I just don't understand what goes on in these people's heads. They have the opportunity to create a bit of a stir, do some decent promotion and get people talking about the great new fish and chip shop just opened, with their lovely fresh chips, tasty kebabs, moreish extras etc. Instead people are saying "nah- not worth the effort, fuck all on the menu, shite chips, can't even get mushy peas, don't bother your arse going".
It's not rocket science for fuck's sake! I really despair. |

Update - still no peas or curry sauce available last night, although they had managed to find some beans.
And the marketing campaign on opening night sounds extremely ill-advised - I've heard reports of the owner strutting about outside loudly proclaiming how much money he's going to make.
This has put more than one potential customer off.
Not me though. Once the peas arrive, at least! |

It's an ok place but they changed prices already and they still do not have menu items. I don't know. you would think that other shop owners would be pleased to see another place has taken up a road they won't travel but my husband and I were warned away. saying that the owners rep was suspect.
Fast food is a suspect genre anyway. But the burger was okay. I liked it sneaky raising the price overnight. I am american a burger is comfort food. they should not mess with that. I think someone should open a deifrance type place. |

And what's with these rumours I hear about the owner going around warning other restaurants that they'd better take fish and chips off their menus???
Hmm ... dodgy marketing strategies indeed. |

| When you can get a sit-down plate of fish and chips elsewhere for about the same price as the takeaway, I don't see the attraction except perhaps nostalgia. |

| I'm not a gourmet; but locally I think Kiwi, Deisel's and B&B's were okay. |

I’ve now eaten twice at the Full Monty and after the first time I was a little disappointed with the chips (crinkle cut) but the fish was lovely.
The second time I tried it; the wife brought home fishcake and chips. The chips were now the real McCoy and the fishcake was one of the best I’ve tasted and for those of you who know me, you might have an idea why I’m the authority on fish cakes….

I'm sure the "Lamma McDonald's" owner will just love to hear that and be happy that you'll help him to make "loads of cash".
Also, there won't be any official opening event, ever, and no ETA date for the missing items on the menu. "All those Lamma people will just have to wait!" is what I heard from somebody asking him.
Most local Western places have good and sometimes great fish & chips. I was looking forward to try some of the other, not available menu choices. But I'll just have to wait. _________________ Avatarific thanks to Guy. |
