Breaking News!

Right now, 5pm on Monday, Feb 21, they're filming a Putonghua-language commercial for the HK Tourism Board in the garden of the Deli Lamma. At least 20 people, including security guards, preventing people from taking pictures,

Major HK movie star & Cantopop singer Karen Mok Man-wai and another lesser star are filming a scene right now. They're sit down on the middle bench and are getting served coffee & cake by Prafull. Then they're excitedly enthusing about the view in Putonghua, obviosuly trying to attract more Mainland & Taiwan visitors to HK and Lamma. Karen Mok is a big star in both of these places and is reputed to speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Italian and Japanese.

Nick the Bookman was very excited when I told him that Karen Mok is filming as he had gotten her autograph a few years ago. She's been in so many movies, locally & internationally, here's a good link to a Time Magazine interview with her:
http://www.time.com/time/asia/features/interviews/int.mok.html
and her biography:
http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800018725&cf=biog&intl=us
and a photo attached.

Well, it's nice I suppose for the restaurants. But she's basically a beauty contest winner who does shampoo commercials that they run 4 times an hour, all day long, so I've seen more than enough of her. I'll save my adulation for Chow Yun Fat.

Well, yes, she's been definitely overexposed in commercials and I especially HATE her horrible shampoo ad running incessantly on all channels, it seems.

But she's got quite a sassy, snappy attitude in some of her movies, like "Shaolin Soccer" with Stephen Chow and the Jackie Chan flop "In 80 Days around the world"...

That Time Magazine interview above is really revealing. She even admitted NOT liking HK, only being here for the money and was very honest in general. Maybe that's why they didn't use the interview in print, web-only...

But she's definitely got movie star charisma and her smile in person is really dazzling... iloveu

Hey, lay off Karen Mok. She's smart, sophisticated, intelligent, sexy and charismatic in an industry largely made up of very mediocre talents at best. I don't suppose she chooses the TV commercial schedules. Hope she comes back to Lamma again soon.

Unlike you, I don't know her personally. I just see those ads, which are the opposite of smart, sophisticated, intelligent, sexy and charismatic. And now she's making more ads. I'm sure she's earning enough money not to care whether I'm a fan or not.

Well, I dislike the frequency of her vapid commercials, but quite enjoyed her performance in the movies I've seen, especially in Jackie Chan's "Around the World in 80 Days" and in "Shaolin Soccer".

She's got at least one big fan on Lamma: Nick the Bookman.
Today, he's still talking enthusiastically about going up to her yesterday after the filming and getting her autograph again, after already getting it 5 years ago after her Edge group concert with Faye Wong and others in the Tamar site.

She actually signed a Lamma-zine flyer that Nick is helping to distribute and even gave her one...

So Nick "gave her one", did he, the lucky devil. She used to work for me as an intern before she made it rich, and I got close once, but no cigar...

I did manage to take her photo coming out of the shower though, while I was pretending to talk on my mobile phone.

Why didn't you give her one, Gung? And I wonder if anyone has ever given Chow Yun Fat one--- Alan?

Well, Nick had been waiting patiently till the filming was all over one hour later. While I was there nobody could get closer than a few feet - filming in progress - and the several security guards even prevented people from taking any pictures from a distance...

Unlike some bird photographers I know I don't have a super ultra zoom lens, otherwise I could have shot a picture of this pretty & rare bird all the way from the old jetty...

They have no right to do that. What can they do, throw a chair at you... (They can just stand in the way of course.)
But seriously, if you're outside, you're in a public place and they can't stop you doing anything you want. I've had movie people trying to block my way when I'm hurrying to the ferry when they were shooting on the bridge, I just walked through them. If they want control they can do it on a set. Or hand out some lai see -- it's a business, they're doing it to make money. I worked on movies enough to lose any awe of them.

Hi Everyone, I’ve just visited Lamma and had a great time. I was a bit worried before coming here, because I heard that people break chairs over your head for no reason, so I was pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone was. I can't wait to get back. I even managed to meet a few of you spunky men, and would like to say Hi. In particular, greetings go to some who really impressed me:

Nick - just love him! I have a thing about hairy bellies. He reminds me of my first teddy bear

Lammagung - what a hunk! He reminds me of my first Yogi Bear punchbag.

Guy Miller - what a “guy”! Reminds me of my first dildo.

Granola Eater - that dazzling smile would make any girl go weak at the knees

Alan - a real red-blooded man at last! You say you were in movies - sure I remember you on the set of “Mongkok Gigolo” - you were Third Eunuch, right?

And hey, Big Bad Bill, I’ve come a long way since I rejected your pathetic sleazy advances. Watch my shampoo commercials and eat your heart out!

Is that the quarterly or semi-annual edition?
