Anybody got a good nickname for the new pavilion in front of the Typhoon Shelter?
I've been asking Lammadonna several times about the official opening ceremony of the pavilion and she promised to let me know. But remembering that it took more than half a year for the official opening of her first office after she moved in last January.
In the meantime, the pavilion is open to the public and it's a nice spot for ferry and sunset watching. Here are a few photos I shot recently. _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day

"Lamma Tourist Office"
"Ferry Watchers' Hangout"
"Lamma-zine Office"

Whoa, hold on there L-B - I only did it to get people started.
I was going to have a "Brainstorming session" with Granola Eater, but he couldn't find his, Everytimeagoodtime couldn't make up his mind if it was a good idea or not, & Victor Meldrew thought it would be a good spot to have a gallery for the Lamma Fun Day pics.
I'm sure there are plenty of other creative thoughts on the subject out there - no hold on, yr probably right - I'll try & work out my favourite 5, although I think it a little strange you are allowed 10. _________________ My inability to tolerate your ambiguity is compounding my neurosis

You read them all? Wow.
Yeah, was a train of thought that got squeezed between the Lamma Palais & Carbuncle - got a bit carried away with the flow.
I'll try to keep this uncomplicated.
The one listed before is the "Lamma Palais" - don't know if they are still there, but all over England there used to be dance & disco halls called "so and so" Palais ie. Ilford Palais.
Following on with the French theme we have the Sorbonne as a centre of learning, but here on Lamma we have the Sore Bum, also meant as a meeting place for half our gay community - but no offence intended.
Then comes the Carbuncle - being a Bum Sore - but also being the descriptive name given by Prince Charles to a big modern building built in the City of London back in the 80's (I think). This is Lammas hi-tech modern building.
Ah, the naievity of L-B is sometimes refreshing
But if it is a little offensive now it has been explained - I'll go witth "Stone Benches"
Another that possibly needs explaining is "Pontpierre" - this was a derivation of another few I forgot to include in my haste:
"Peer Point",
"Pier Point", &
"Pierre Lookout"
"Lookout Pierre"
My train of thought gets the better of me sometimes.
I shall go back & explain a few others, just in case. _________________ My inability to tolerate your ambiguity is compounding my neurosis

"Harry's Bookshop" - there's a shelf with room for one book
"Nicks Loading Bay" - If you it get there - he'll get it to the ferry
"Nicks Unloading Bay" - if you get it there from the ferry - he deliver it to your new home
"7/11" - it's open 24 hours a day
"The Clocktower" - all we need is a clock - just like the "shop clocks" that are all 10 mins fast
"The Safe Deposit" - a place for Lammaites to store all their valuables
"The Sticky Finger" - shan't go there - cinema back row Lamma alternative
"10ft High Club" - Lamma alternative to the "Mile High Club"
"The Pleasure Turret"
"Safe Sex Area" - Lamma alternative to al fresco sex on a rainy day
"Bay Watch" - location for the next Lamma TV series
"Inequality Den" - who said we're all pigs anyway (George Orwell - I think)
"Tsunami Lookout" - it's on the wrong side of the island
"GAIA Teepee" - Typhoon proof alternative
"The Tom Tom Room" - a place to play their drums on a rainy day
"MST 2 Pavilion" - getting ready for the next MST
"The Amahs Room" - close enough to Po Wah Yuen, but not too close to interfere with family life
"The Recording Studio" - a good place for Lamma Rock Bands to do their recording if Mt Stenhouse is booked
"The Rock Venue" - a good place to listen to Lamma Rock Bands if they are playing on Mt Stenhouse
"L-Bs nude Room" - who going to walk that far to look at him anyway!!
"The NUDE Room" - if they play there - I'll go & listen
"Yungshuwankers Auditorium" - if they play there - I won't go there & listen
"The Yungshuewankers Playroom" - if they play with themselves or their egos there, I won't go & watch
"The Rocks Venue" - a good place for rocks to meet & chat
"Chinese Garden" - not a blade of grass or flower in sight - nicely concreted
"Upton Park" - will be able to fit all the West Ham supporters that'll be watching them next season
"Lamma Passport Control"
"HKKF No Smoking Area"
"Lamma Wetlands Observatory" - there's water there
"The Twitchers Club" - not for Birdwatching, but for those that have been on "Ice" too long
"The Pharmacy"
"The Pill Box"
"Fishermans Bluff" - put a few fishing rods there & the tourists'l think the fish a caught fresh locally
"VV Parking Lot" - once they've "cemented in" the steps in the dead of night
"The Fish & Chip Shop" - if it opens first
"The Feripad" - Well we already have a helipad - I think - somewhere
"Alans Watchtower" - he's heard they're building a new path or drainage ditch somewhere near here
"Lamma LEGCO Building"
"Illegal Structure" - who gave permission for it to be built anyway?
"Rememberance Garden" - to remember those lost & ferry departed Lammaites
"Statue Square" - a good spot for a statue for that unknown Lamma hero
"Lamma Landmark" - a shopping plaza for high class Lamma gift items
"The Bus Shelter" - a good place to take a piss while waiting for the next Lamma Bus
"The MTR Station" - The MTR is coming to Lamma - isn't it?
"The Playstation" - for the kids to take their computer games
"The Vector of Love" - the roofing is the right shape for a teenager hangout
"Beanburglars Brain House" - there are no moving parts
"Millers Coventry" - Victor pls don't send me there if you don't find this thread amusing
"Zzzzzzz Point" - I'm sure you're all getting fed up with this thread - I'll stop here - besides I only posted this one so I could move ahead of Webdog in the "Total Posts" league table - lucky I didn't post them separately, otherwise Legless & Alan would be chalked up as well
DISCLAIMER - none of the above reflect a personal view, just a representative selection of fellow Lammaite impressions of the state of Lamma I have received in the last 10 minutes or so _________________ My inability to tolerate your ambiguity is compounding my neurosis

Guy,
Well, you really don't know when to stop, do you?
You should have quite while you were ahead in this naming game!
So now we have even more choices and still no Top 5 from you? There can only be 20 options maximal in our polls, but that's already too much for most people to choose from. We need to reduce the choices to the best ones.
If you don't want to do it, I'll just play God, eh, Editor, and make the choices myself right now. I'm not really expecting anybody else to come up with good choices soon, you've EXHAUSTED most of the angles for nicknames already with your exhaustive lists, leaving us all verbally exhausted. _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

OK, we're getting there!
One last thing, could you add descriptions to my 10 top choices, please. Then the voting can commence and descriptions make it easier, considering the pretty wide range of IQ levels amongst the voters (most pretty close to genius level, of course).
"Sunset Pavilion"
"Passion Point"
"I.I. Sanctuary"
"Lammadonna's Perch"
"Lamma Tourist Office"
"Ferry Watchers' Hangout"
"Lamma-zine Office"
"Hippy Recruitment Centre"
"Air Quality Control Centre"
"Lamma Palais"
With all these nicknames, you certainly have enough material for a little Blog story to take the piss out of the pagoda, so to speak. Interested? _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

There is no "other half." I'm the only gay on Lamma. |

We need to create some history to make it a tourist attraction. Cheung Chau has Cheung Po Tsai's cave, Tung Lung and Po Toi have prehistoric rock carvings (suspiciously, not "discovered" till quite recent times); here we seem to have some putative Japanese war sites, such as the Kamikaze Caves and the Japanese Hospital, (neither with any actual facts behind the names). So we could mount a few fake samurai swords on the walls, and say without fear of contradiction that what we have is actually a commemorative Shinto shrine, (explaining the tacky orientalist design) for the squad of Japanese soldiers left to defend Lamma at the end of the War, who when the Allied fleet sailed in committed mass hara-kiri. Thus I suggest Seppuku Point.
If restrictions on selling charcoal come in, the faltering outlying islands suicide industry will need a boost. The Blue Bird could set up a stall selling sake by the shot, to help visitors get up their nerve. Suitably sharp wakizashi could be rented out for the hard core, or weighted belts sold to the more squeamish. Local martial arts experts could perform coups de grâce (for a nominal fee). It'd also undoubtedly improve the yield for the rock fishermen (we might even attract some sharks). |
