|

Just back from Ling Kok Shan for shooting the French fighters (not with missles, through). Around twenty something people at the peak, mostly tourists and also some unexpected visitors. It took me an hour walk from there back to YSW. More info and photos are available tonight. Stay tuned. |

First of all, sorry for my delay and bad English. Here's my jounary today:
12:00pm - take the ferry from YSW to Aberdeen
12:30pm - take the Kaito from Aberdeen to Mo Tat Wan (anyone has a better route for this?)
12:55pm - arrived Mo Tat Wan ferry pier
1:15pm - arrived the famous "Aqua Priva" near Mo Tat Old Village (Point 1). Few visitors already setup shooting equipments on the hills East of Mo Tat.
1:45pm - climb up over thousand steps and reach my shooting site (Point 2), the East side of Ling Kok Shan. Few couples are taking the same East path as me do, I'd suggest using the West path (from Sok Kwu Wan) for uphills next time.
2:00pm - the scheduled start time for the display. The air condiation is terrible so we can hardly see things beyond Ocean Park across the strait. But we can see clearly hundred of boats are rushing to area outside Repulse Bay.
2:05pm - the Aerobatic team fly over from the Peak and do various display finally in front of us. Since the air condiation is terrible so we can only hear their noise most of the time. Some planes fly through the South of Lamma (Sham Wan) and return through Sok Kwu Wan - a great experience of surround sound system for guys on top of Ling Kok Shan.
2:40pm - Finished the show and most of the visitors go downhills to Sok Kwu Wan through the West route.
An unexpected visitor: While we waiting for the show begin a huge government heli fly from HK Island towards us. Firstly we thought it was for shooting the show from the sky however it finally landed at the helipad at the brocasting station at the peak of Ling Kok Shan (Point 3). The crew members then take 2 female VIPs(?) to my shooting location for watching the show - the whole show! This cause me and other tourist some delay when we try to get down from Ling Kok Shan because they need us to stay away from the helipad when they departing.
Most of the visitors there, including me has a question in mind - isn't the government heli are for emergency use only?
After an usual 45 minutes I arrived back to my home at Sha Po from Sok Kwu Wan then. That's exactly an hour from the tip of Ling Kok Shan.
Attached some photos taken and the route map, enjoy!! |

Great story, BunnyRabbit and the photos are as good as can be expected with all the smog. Even an annotated map, very professional! Want to become a Lamma-zine contributor?

You could take the Chuen Kee ferry from Aberdeen to Sok Kwu Wan next time. The ferry pier is just next to where the other ferry company ("our" ferry, HKKF) arrives in Aberdeen. It takes just 23 minutes, they claim, and it stops over in Mo Tat Wan before reaching Sok Kwu Wan 7 minutes later:

| Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that "shooting aeroplanes" is actually Hong Kong's national past-time. |

You could take the ferry all the way to Sok Ku Wan.
When you get off the ferry turn left towards Mo Tat Wan.
Afrter about 150m, at the top of the first rise there are steps (not concrete) & a trail that brings you out at the helipad (15-20mins)
& an alternative to catching the ferries - if you enquire in the village you can arrange a sampan to pick you up in YSW & take you directly to SKW.
I did the Aberdeen to SKW trip at about 04:00 a few nights ago for $150 - so I presume that to get a sampan (which will come initially come from Aberdeen) to do the YSW/SKW trip would cost about the same. _________________ My inability to tolerate your ambiguity is compounding my neurosis

I think it (the North-path) should be the shortest path from Sok Kwu Wan to helipad but it is also the steepest path?

As far as I can remember in YMT ferry time they do have services between YSW/SKW? When my friends come to visit me they always ask for suggestion on seafood restaurant. My answer is always tell them to go SKW instead. That's nice if there's boat service from YSW to SKW instead of the usual 45-mins walk. |

Yes it is, but very pleasant

Sorry, that should have read - Aberdeen to YSW.
And when I said catch the ferry to SKW, meant from Aberdeen & instead of getting off at Mo Tat Wan.
As far as I know there are no ferry services between YSW & SKW, but can arrange a sampan.
Sorry, I should have been clearer. _________________ My inability to tolerate your ambiguity is compounding my neurosis
