Submitted by Village Bakery:

"The Village Bakery will be opening in late October to supply Yung Shue Wan with freshly baked bread, cakes, pies and pastries, in both European and Chinese styles. The Village Bakery will use only the finest quality ingredients and our water supply is filtered.

A full range of loaves and baguettes will be available, including wholemeal, white and organic. Sliced bread will be baked, sliced and wrapped on the premises.

Monday to Saturday, early sandwich and beverage service will be available from 6 am onwards, in time for all the morning ferries to Central and Aberdeen.

Pre-ordering is recommended; just complete the order form and collect your pre-packed order as you pass the bakery on the way to the ferry pier.

Special orders for birthday cakes, Christmas cakes and other items can be made with 3 days notice.

So that we can provide what you want, we welcome your suggestions for your favourite bakery items."

The two caribous standing guard outside the future bakery for a long time now are NOT an indication of the ingredients of their sandwiches!

They're just "parked" there by Alastair and have no connection whatsoever with the future bakery, NONE! I thought they might be mascots or displays for the bakery, giving them kind of a rustic, rural image, but this is obviously utterly, totally, completely erroneous!

They'll have huge public display boards in the shop windows, where anybody can put up private & charity ads, A5 size, for one week for free.

That's a great addition to the village environment as we really lack a clean, legal place to put up ads now. Business ads will be charged to keep them to a minimum and give most of the space to private ads.

More info closer to the opening time of the bakery, but you can pick up free ad forms in the Bistro anytime from now.

Some people have been munching delicious croissants on Lamma today, from a "test baking", I believe.

So the ovens seem to be working fine and the opening might really be close.

Let me find out more details from the bakery owner...

A bun in the oven is better than no bun at all.

Macaroni pies? What's that? Macaronis inside a bread crust?
I hope it tastes better than it sounds!

Well, I believe that the owner of the Village Baker actually reads this topic and he told me that he welcomes all suggestions for what to offer in the bakery.

Me too, but why can't they manage to put up some labels so that you know the names of the various loaves.

I'll love to advise on which loaf I found particularly tasty toasted with worcestershire sauce, peanut butter and cheese....but I can't. Rolling Eyes

submitted by Oliver:

"I have tried Tommy's bread from the new Bakery. We only had one of the smaller granary type loafs and it was absolutely superb. Moist and really delicious.

We are going back to try more of his stuff. Tommy tells me they have already sourced organic flours and will be baking naturally soon as well as early openings and coffee next week.

I couldn't congratulate him enough, my only worry is that the standards may have set unrealistic expectations among us Lamma folk."

I hope the bakery will extend its opening hours so we can pick up bread on the way home in the evening.
