Think the mystery may be solved.
This is most likely the male Woodland Spider.
Was in the same web as the yellow & black (female) Woodland Spider. Although both are about the same size 3-4cm

Bit of an abstract.......... but shows a large black "Woodland Spider" with wasp & cross-section of the web Cool

Don't know the name of this beast. It is quite big, 4-5 inch across. At first, it was quite relax but then it switched to post seem like ready to fight. Maybe some insect expert can tell us more about it.

I've heard that these wolf spiders have a nasty bite - anyone have any first hand experience?
