I think this is a Silver Streak Blue. It's a great name, especially as it doesn't look at all blue from this angle. it is Blue on the upperside. This is apparently an uncommon butterfly.

Very nice pictures.
There are numerous similar, but different species of brown butterflies - this one has an irridescent blue on the topside of it's wings - but this is the nearest I got to being able to photograph the "blue side"

Nice pictures! I've tried to get a butterfly shot but can't get the creatures to sit still long enough. I'l try again this weekend.

Since we don't seem to have any real butterfly experts around, maybe we should introduce a new rrequirement - identify the butterfly you photograph from available resources on the Internet.

I also have difficulties taking pictures of butterflies, but have found that if they settle you can actually get quite close to them to take the photo. But keep yr movements slow.
If they fly away, hang in there, there is a very good chance they will return to the same spot.
Best time seems to be early morning, as they appear a little sleepy & like to sun themselves to warm up their wings.
Another example today, although I will try & dig up it's name later

Beautiful - it is also valuable to see what plants they are on or interested in.

I think this may be a Red Helen. This one never fully settled, the wings always busy.

I think it is a Rustic Nymph. Great photo!

Wow, some really great photos, guys!

It's such a relief to come into this forum, like a safe haven sheltering from all the nastiness, attacks, gossip and rumours swirling around in some of the other forums...
Can I stay here for a few minutes to take a breather before holding my breath and diving back into the other forums, please? Wink

Great job, Zep, managing to attract some serious nature-lovers and photographers! I think it's time for another little feature in my daily Blog and in the next Lamma-zine, showcasing your photos to a much bigger audience than in these forums with its still small number of loyal regulars.

Should I call it "Guy's Butterflies" after the recent "Sheila's Spiders" feature in the Lamma-zine Blog? Laughing

This moth really looks like it is carved from wood. It is a big moth ... about 9 - 10 cm.

Please not - I have found Sheilas photos a lot more compelling than my own & have inspired me to pesevere with the butterflies .
I've got some great bugs though!!
See "Bug forum" in a minute.

And yes it is a fanciful flight away from the other forums, and the butterflies and bugs etc are all around us all of the time.
On another note, for anyone living in Tai Peng, almost stepped on a cobra last week, that was at least 10' long that looked as if it was stalking a cat.

OK, I'll be waiting for "Guy's Bugs" from the "Official Court Lepidopterist-in-residence"

Here is an clear side shot of the moth. I forgot to add it to the previous post. A rather handsome beast.

Nicest thing anybody has ever said to me in these forums.
Thank you... I think you are nice also - can see why you are able to take such beautiful pictures.

Awwww, guys, you seem to be working overtime in damaging the naughty & nasty image of Lamma.com.hk by being soooooooo cute!

Guy "a rather handsome beast" Miller flirting with Sheila who likes all beasts as a true animal lover... Embarassed

Some great shots here. Guy's Butterflies sounds good, or even ":Guys and Shielas" - sounds like an Australian version of "Guys and Dolls"

.

I agree, Zep.
But I've actually chosen YOUR nicely alliterating title of "Bugs Behaving Badly" as the Lamma-zine photo gallery title for all the photos in this forum, including "Guys & Sheilas" photos.

I've used it already for your photo submission in my blog for the very first "Copulating Bugs" photo you've submitted recently...

More photos!
