After quite a long delay, I've finally got around to upload a new design into the page header of the Lamma.com.hk home page, replacing k@'s long-standing design.
It's in demo mode now, along with the new Lamma News Blog and more options on the top navigation bar, awaiting your comments and feedback. That's why I haven't changed the forums page header yet, for comparison reasons. Please comment!
In the meantime, there's a problem with the databased "Portal" choices in the left menu, because k@'s database website (web4uk.tv) has been down for a little while now. Don't try to use them for now, please.
I'm working on redesigning the left menu as well, to fit in with the new page header and overall design style - less hairy! _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

It looks nicer, but it's a fixed width (796 pixels). The old banner was composed of elements that allowed it to stretch to fit different page/screen sizes. |

Yes, I had it all variable elements at first in the page header, like the old banner. But I ditched it as it doesn't look good at larger screen resolutions. So I fixed it at the most common screen resolution, so it's all a nice, short, easily readable column of Blog entries, events, photo galleries, etc. at the same width as the new fixed banner, avoiding the layout of the text to be all messed up with variable-width text columns. Same idea as in the Lamma-zine which should look fine on all screen resolutions, I hope. _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

Doesn't work like that for me, at 1024 wide. Basically, the black navigation bar still resizes, maybe you need to fix that to 800 wide. |

| I like the ferry pier and the helipad but there's something a bit strange about the perspective between the left and right sides of the banner. I really like both sides individually though. Does that make any sense at all? |

Thanks for the heads up on dataBase problem. But it isn't that.
Probably just old domain name is linked in MyLamma files now stored at your end. I didn't know Gung had copied them to your end. I'll check any files on my server but they should've been automatically upgraded with all of our own stuff.
No doubt Gung can work it out.
For example this works fine :
http://www.avarte.com/search/lamma/app_lamma_search_mod.cfm?search_what=classifieds
PS. The new button bar screws up on my screen too. |

Hmmm. I cant get anything to come up on this page, but I think the links point to Lamma Gungs server so I can't help I'm afraid.

OK, page header and button bar fixed. It's fixed to 800 pixels width now, but I might make it variable to adjust to any screen width when I find the time and the right mood for more table programming...
k@, I've changed the portal links from the old web4uk.tv server to avarte.com inside the JavaScript code. A heads up would be nice next time when you close down a domain name linked from so many places on our site.
The portal database function work fine now, except the "Find accommodation" search spews out database error codes at the bottom of the search results screen and no results. This has been a problem for Quite some time and I can't fix it from my side. I only noticed it when I wanted to add some accommodations info, being frequently asked for it by Lamma visitors. Please have a quick look.
And the "Add your links" function really messes up the screen layout, like the footer sticking out at the top right and the left nav bar moving to the right. This is the only database function that messes up the screen layout.
That's all for today. Sorry to bother you, k@, but as I don't have access to the database I can't fix these two problems myself. _________________ Click here for new Lamma-zine stories and recent Photos of the Day and Artworks of the Day |

Sorry Gung.
Sorry I forgot to tell you the web4uk domain was running out. I didn't think it was important as I had changed any links affected on mine and webdogs server previously as far as I can remember. Forgot you had copied some of my files to your own server.
The DataBase problem will be (rubbish in rubbish out) not the SQL code or the actual dataBase. I can look at it but I suspect the parameters being fed in to the SQL statements may have been wonkerized during recent messing about lol.
I will re-read your message in a minute and see if I can find out whats gone wonky.
I suggest, if you are going to change stuff dramatically I just supply you with some cut and paste HTML code and you can just slot it into your own design.
Give me a week or two and I'll send it along. Meanwhile, If I can fix the existing easily I will. Otherwise I suggest you disable the offending options till I can provide replacement code you can work with more easily. |
