Please let me know if any of the info below is outdated, wrong or incomplete. Thanks!

Stepping right off any ferry arriving at Lamma Island you can see ads and shop fronts from different guesthouses ("holiday resorts"), for example more than 5 guesthouses advertising along Yung Shue Wan Main Street. All property agents usually have rooms available on week days. Weekends/holidays are busiest and much more expensive.

There are many places to stay for reasonable rates, from around US$50-100/night in a little guesthouse to over US$300 in our two "hotels/resorts".
Most of these places have special rates for longer stays, by the week or month.

Almost none of the Lamma guesthouses promote or advertise on the Internet at all and don’t have active websites, Facebook pages or any form of online reservations. Email forms or plain email or phone calls are the usual way to reserve and some advance payment or a credit card are usually requested.

Call them directly, if convenient, as some of them might not reply at all to their listed email addresses or replies take several days, especially for English enquiries.

Concerto Inn Hotel
Just off the public Hung Shing Yeh beach, 25 minutes from Yung Shue Wan ferry pier, 20 Hung Shing Yeh Beach.
They'll pick up your luggage from the ferry if you call them early. The only proper "hotel" on Lamma (and the only accommodation advertiser/sponsor of this website so far), w/restaurant & facilities):
Tel +852 2982 1668, email: booking@concertoinn.com.hk - http://www.concertoinn.com.hk - Facebook

Dayan Petit Resort
For fans of the Japanese Wachifield cute cats cartoons. 6 Dayan-themed rooms, over HK$2,000/night, co-managed by neighbouring Concerto Inn hotel, opened in Nov 2014.

Kathmandu Guest House
Back Street (former Bubbles Laundry, after Best Kebab), Tel/Fax: 2982 0028 (10 minutes from YSW ferry pier).

Dollarful Holiday Resort
21B Back Street, Yung Shue Wan - Tel +852 6126 8879 or 9493 2728 - http://www.dollarful.com

Sunrise Holiday Resort
(Jackson Property Agency), 15 Main St., Yung Shue Wan - Tel +852 2982 2626 - http://www.lammaresort.com/resort_e.html

Man Lai Wah Hotel
Just off Yung Shue Wan ferry pier. Not a hotel, but a guesthouse w/o food or facilities:
Tel +852 2982 0220 - email: ericiris123@netvigator.com (Eric Wong).

Bali Holiday Resort
8 Main St., Yung Shue Wan, Tel +852 2982 4580 (close to YSW ferry pier. bali@netvigator.com.)

Sun Hing Hotel: http://www.SunHingHotel.com.hk

Lamma Youth Camp
For Chin.-speaking groups only, 14-30 people:
http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/camp/sngocc/p_ng_lamma.html - http://lyc.hkfyg.org.hk/ (Chin. only)

There are a few more guesthouses in Yung Shue Wan, Sok Kwu Wan and Mo Tat Wan, but I don't have most of their contacts handy. Except:

The Bay
Mot Tat Wan beach, just off the Mo Tat Wan ferry pier, 1 stop from Aberdeen or Sok Kwu Wan - http://www.thebayhk.com/rental.html).

Please add to this list, part of our (out-of-date) Bilingual Yellow Pages.

For for a more personal Lamma experience, try AirBnB, which is becoming more and more popular on Lamma, listing 33 rooms/flats available on Lamma today (Dec 15, 2014): https://www.airbnb.com/s/Lamma-Island--Hong-Kong.

Not closed, just their laundry closed a while back, so they can focus on the guest house business.

They're still one of the very best local guest houses with friendly service and offer very reasonable long-term rents.
We'd probably even stay there for a few weeks or even months ourselves if we'd ever find ourselves in a "between-flats" situation.

One more addition after I met a couchsurfer recently who stayed on Lamma and all over HK for free in rooms offered for free by people who love hosting interesting visitors and don't care about being paid. Just 1 or 2 hosts in North Lamma?

Lamma-Gung,

What would the total price be in some really inexpensive place, for staying a period of 2 to 8 weeks in total?

I just need good Internet, it's not a problem if it takes even 1.5 hours to get to central Hong Kong.

Please let me know - the figures you gave here in this thread above indicate that Lamma is actually more pricy than central HK, though I believe that should not be the case?

If you want to suggest something specific in person, please email/PM me =)

Thanks!!

Yes, temp accommodation on Lamma can definitely be more pricey per night or week than some places on HK Island or TST (places like Chungking Mansions).

Besides free options like Couchsurfing.com or reasonably priced options above, if anybody knows cheap accommodations for visitors, please post here. That would be most welcome, as this topic here still seems to be the only (still incomplete) index of Lamma accommodations online?

What is TST?

Chungking Mansions seemed very uncozy looking from their homepages, like, extremely sterile bunk beds. Do you or any of your friends actually have any experience with any of those places, as being nice and decent, like you would actually be comfortable with staying there for a couple of weeks?

What about the New Territories, could something be particularly suitable there?

You wrote above that the cheapest found on Lamma is 50-100 USD i.e. 450-900HKD, that is really not so inexpensive at all, at least if you multiply it to a month.

Thank you very much for letting me know and helping me figure the way through! =)

Aha.

Thanks for pointing out the weekend thing.

How long is the commute from Lamma (like from Kathmandu)?

Also to K. do you have website/email/phone?

And last (hopefully not repeating things), would you very much kindly feel like mentioning the name of some more guest house/-s?

Thanks so much for your help!! =)

All the contacts of all the guest houses and accommodations I know of are in the list at the beginning of this topic.
Any additional ones that forum members might know are welcome to be added here.

Hi! At the end of July we are going to HK and then to Lamma Island. The plan is to spend there about a month.
Is it possible to find and rent quickly a small flat there and to pay not more than HK$ 5,000-6,000 for it? Last year I saw many announcments of this kind, but now I am not sure if I could find similar notices.
Can experienced Lamma residents advise where should I adress first of all?To real estate agencies or to owners ?
Thanks in advance .

That was no joke. Alan is right. Your best option would be to look for a house sitting ad in these classifieds or on the outdoor walls in Yung Shue Wan, from people leaving for summer vacation. Otherwise, almost impossible to find anything for less than double of your budget.

Are you or friends going away from 26th Feb- 5th March 2017? Would you be interested in renting your apartment to a couple of British academics who need accommodation on Lamma for those dates? If so please get in touch directly

Dear Lamma-Gung, thank you for the valuable information! I stayed for a couple of months on Lamma island a few years ago and it was very treasured experience. I'd like to go back there and re-visit the place this weekend. I wonder whether the Kathmandu guesthouse is still open to let me stay. :)

Hey, does anyone have the landlord uncle's email address? LOL I am too shy to talk on the phone...
