Saw the disused police post in Main Street was half way dismantled today. Didn't have a camera or phone on me.

Interesting to see if the govt will make it a sitting out area, or just let the restaurants nearby take it over as they do the other public space in Main Street.
Or even more unlikely, plant something.

I liked the lines of Police Cordon tape around the hole this morning, as if it was a crime scene... police box stolen!

Well, as expected, the former police post has been taken over by the Lung Wah Restaurant.

Will the police send in the troops and use pepper spray to stop this illegal occupation of public space?
Or will it be just allowed to be taken from the public like the area on the other side of the Rural Committe building, that has been occupied by the Sampan for 20 or 30 years now without hindrance?

Asking our police chief about it, they're not in charge of the former Policebox area anymore, it's been handed back to Lands Dept.

Someone has already lodged a complaint against the illegal occupation with restaurant tables. This would be handled by Lands Department, probably in the same way the many years of illegal occupation of public land by the Sampan rest. on weekends. Most likely by putting up signs and no enforcement, same as other illegal land occupations all over Lamma.

Re: the former police station above Hung Shing Yeh beach which is slowly being overgrown now, slowly reclaimed by Lamma's subtropical jungle:

The Government Property Agency is now responsible for the the old police post. The police doesn't know what they are going to do with it.
But it can't be given to anybody else, like an NGO, as it's not "safe" anymore, cracks in the walls, very expensive to repair, might be cheaper to rebuild it. I've been taking picture up there recently and probably saw a glimpse of a wild boar behind the station.

For the site of former police reporting center, I receive no information from Lands Department about the use of the site and any restriction of it. Lands Department is the enforcement agency.

Sampan using the space next to their restaurant I actually think is a relatively positive thing and okay because they do it part of the time and gives the place a lively and communal environment...

I certainly wouldn't want Lcsd or someone else "designing" something there, that would be a grim day for all.....incompetence followed by ugly

However this discussion should not be about the loss of the police box and the subsequent use of "public space" , people should be asking why they now have a village without a police presence or police protection, are we now supposed to expect competent self policing.....have seen that before..

I for one would like my taxes to be partly used to re have the police presence in the village that I have paid for for the last 20 years, a police monolith out of the village with maybe police officers playing cards does not do it for me.
