Kel Morgan writes, via Facebook's new Help Our Helpers event:

Sunday, 17 November 2013, 10:00 - 15:00
The Island Bar
, Yung Shue Wan Main Street, Lamma Island Hong Kong

"We in Hong Kong would be lost without our Filipino helpers. Now it's our chance to help them. What can you do? Bring books; bric-a-brac; CD's, DVD's; baked goods... any marketable items to the Island Bar on Sunday morning from 10 am.

Things (within reason) can be left in the back of the Island Bar prior to the event. Bearing in mind they still have to access their stock cupboards! Thanks all!"

From the Lamma Catholic Community:

"The Lamma Catholic Community is organizing the collection of monetary assistance to help the victims of the tragic disaster caused by Super Typhoon Yolanda in Visayas.

We all have been blessed with the opportunity to live and work in a better and safer place such as Hong Kong, far away from the harm, danger and misery that this typhoon has inflicted.

Along with our continued prayers, we can also help the survivors by supporting this campaign. Please kindly give your cash donations to the Poor Clare Sisters of the Portiuncula Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament in Yung Shue Wan, Lamma Island starting today, November 11th, until Sunday, November 17th.

The monetary donations will be used to buy necessary items that the survivors urgently need such as clean water, food and medicine, which will be distributed to the affected areas through Caritas Hong Kong with the help of Fr. Emil Lim and CFC-FFL HK.

No amount is too small. Every little bit of help counts.

For enquiries, please feel free to call +852 2982 1283 or +852 6593 4502.

Thank you for your generosity and may the Lord bless you all.

Marie writes:

"Thought I'd let you know that there will be an Acoustic Fundraising night hosted by Filipino Musician/s and his students on the 22nd Nov, Friday at 8pm. Proceeds will be sent to super typhoon Haiyan's victims in the Philippines.

Performers are Lamma's very talented string instruments teacher and students and hopefully a couple of performers from HK Island."

One more major fundraiser, involving some major musical talents from Lamma's vibrant and talented Filipino community, including Aileen and Dark Himaya's Ivy, plus the usual suspects like Barnaby Bruce,...

The Coffee Guy at Tai Yuen Village will also donate all the proceeds (including costs) from their sales tomorrow (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.), which is extraordinary, cause most of the time they always feature "Sunday no coffee", all the raised funds will go to the Shelter Box as above.

From the Lamma Catholic Community on Facebook (including all photos below. Thank you!):

"Dear brothers & sisters,

Just an update on the KFL/Sunday School kids' very successful fundraising rummage sale yesterday for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Yolanda: We were able to raise a total of HK$6,700 from 12:30pm-6:30pm!

We truly felt God's presence in the generosity of the people who supported us, especially everyone who bought items from the sale who did not even bother to get back their change and the passersby who just gave cash donations without even taking any items. We are indeed humbled and inspired by their genuine selflessness and overwhelming support! May God bless them all!

Thanks to the children and the service team as well as to everyone who donated items, for their willingness to help the typhoon victims in any way they can, even on such short notice. It was indeed a good opportunity to teach our children about sacrifice and service - about giving and being involved for the greater good of others, that despite their young age, they can also do something to help those in need.

Big high fives to all the kids and to everyone who helped out! You guys rock! May God continue to bless and guide you all to be His worthy servants!

Last but definitely not the least, we give thanks to the Lord for His blessings and guidance! All of this would not have been possible without His help! God is indeed good all the time! Our Lord will never leave us unaided!

We will also continue our rummage sale later today, right after the Holy Mass, to try to raise more funds for the typhoon victims in the Philippines. We humbly request your help and support either by being part of the service team or by bringing items that you want to donate or by simply buying something from our rummage sale. We are also accepting donations, both in cash or in kind, through the help of the Poor Clare Sisters of Portiuncula. All donations will go to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda through Caritas Hong Kong and CFC-FFL HK. Every little bit of help counts! Let us turn our compassion into action!

We hope to see you all there! In the meantime, let's continue to pray for all the typhoon victims and for everyone involved in the relief operations in the Philippines.

Thank you and may God be praised!"

Kelly Morgan writes:

"Happy Monday, Lammaites.
Thanks to your generosity I have just deposited $18,000 HKD to Save the Children's Typhoon Haiyan fund.

Our donor ID is available by PM if anyone wants it. I should receive a receipt in the mail within a week. I will post the receipt in the Island Bar as soon as it becomes available. Thanks to all who suggested alternative charities. I will post a list of alternative charities who are doing great work on the ground as well for anyone who cares to donate to them. We've had a lot of worthy suggestions but legally had to go with the advertised charity.

Thank you all for what you do. (And props to Lamma Fun Day while I'm on a theme.)"
