It is irrelevant if it will be beneficial in 20 years, people on Lamma (and probably 99% of HK's population) would not be able to afford them, if they were built, which I dont think they will be.

I would rather live in a `chicken hut' as you call them on Lamma than a shoe box on HK island.

I have asked you before but you failed to answer - if you do not live on Lamma why are you so interested in what goes on?

You know the prices of build flats and houses in 10 years? With this ability you should earn plenty of money to buy a house in the Baroque development. I know, you don't want to earn lots of money!

Are you aware that Lamma Island was almost completely deforested not so many years ago? Who was responsible for that deforestation? Who has been replanting the forests in recent decades?

That's the first interesting point you make Tavis,no,I did know that but can see as I pointed out in my earlier post that something had happened. There I wrote about Fig trees with not edible Fruits and small derelict Farms I find when I hike. My Ex born on the Island told me only of a high radiation in the 50es what made some Babies loose there Hair .

Oh, I see, so that explains why so many of the over 60's here are balding a bit. And, silly me, I though it was just a natural phenomena that occurred world wide to grandparents and people of that age!

When we call him Moron, idiot, and other stuff of the like, we betray years of education we have accumulated over the years. It's obviously from his uncreative choice of insults, he's young. We were young once, and quite foolish and very emotional (it's hormones). Eventually the hormones dry up, and we debate logically. Elwad simply hasn't reached this state yet this is why is clinically immature to debate us.

That's why I started a thread only dedicated to the critique of the CCP's policies by posting about the disasterous news reports form the mainland. Alan's post Chairman Mao, is dedicated to critiquing the psychopath that is Mao. Somehow these and other threads tend to get hijacked by a certain Fenqing boy who's name starts with an "E", and some how his acidic and caustic xenophobia spills out everywhere. For once, I am not the cause of confusion and baffling non sequiturs. Woooot for me.

I think you are referring to the rough-leaved stem fig which is indigenous and quite common in the woods here. While the the 'fruit' are unpalatable for humans I think they do provide a source of food for birds and insects.

Regarding deforestation:
{L_QUOTE}:

Old photos I have seen of Lamma show hillsides completely barren of trees. From what I have heard and read, the trees were all used as fuel for cooking and heating by villagers over the years. The recent comeback of trees to Lamma hillsides is due in part to natural succession, governemnt planting, and the efforts of environmental groups such as ABLEto plant trees on a yearly basis.

Yes,I have seen the plug ads,it reads: Government, the Electricity Fund and local Environmental Groups planted 2000 Flowers ,Shrubs and Trees.

Guess what,? I had to laugh!

This wont help for what is coming. Perhaps some Flowers are edible.

A total rethink has to start about Plants Trees and other Food in HK.

We need eatable stuff here and the Organic Farming Research Centre
the Baroque Developer is planning could find Plants adaptable to Lamma.
Not that they have to go far. The Citrus Fruits comes from this area,Hainan
has Coffee plantation and Pepper Bushes instead of Shrubs planted. Nearby in Canton are Olive Trees and in Thailand they domesticated Grapes to eat and for wine making. There are good Valleys and Hills here for Grapes on Lamma.

Further I picket the Goat they grow in Hainan for herding on the Hills. They eat
Grass but fertilize the land and help this Way to sustain the Need of Protein in the Population and establish a biodiversity on the Hills.

At the Tree Nursery of the Baroque all this Plants could be sold to the Public and the ecological Food Recipes introduced at the Restaurants there. It all will happen in the next 10 Years, the Population will cry for it in the next Famine and I would not like to be in the shoes of the Town Planners who rejected this excellent and great but financial risky Plan of the Baroque Developer.

There is plenty of fallow land on agricultural leases on Lamma. Baroque has "bought" a lot of it. (Since they haven't really bought it, in law, just paid off the traditional owners to let them screw it over.)

There is nothing stopping them from resuming farming on this land now.
Especially since their luxury housing scheme has been rejected again.

True, but it will take a lot of Investment to only do the Farming and the Restaurant the right Way.
Only a big Company could stem that.

Rubbish. If they actually gave a damn about agriculture, they could do that for 1% of what they've spent on greasing up the local politicians and hiring PR companies to support the Baroque development.

You're just helping them greenwash their project, whether you're doing it knowingly or if you're foolish enough to believe them.
They're a real estate company and that's the one and only thing they care about..

You seem to be close to them,so how much is 1% .How much did they spend?
Which Politicians did they grease up?

Starting producing and farming will cost a Sum unknown to me ,the Tree Nursery perhaps 2 Million USD the Marketing perhaps 100 K US,the Restaurant perhaps 4-5 Million USD.Look at Whitbred PLC yearly Accounts
I bet you can't answer this questions you only made trouble for a very good Idea and tried to ruin it .Calling the Developer a" Wanker" is in my world pure unethical. No wonder you have to be a Christian! Hopefully it will all come back to hunt you and the ones opposing it the day you pay x times more for your food or can't afford it no longer.

If they have the land (as they say they do), all it costs is some seeds and labour.

As for Mr "the commodore of Lamma" Li,. yes he's a wanker. And you're a fool if you believe anything he says about green development.

And "Christian"? I'm not a religious person and never discussed it here, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

But I should stick to my resolve and leave you to spout your nonsense. The Baroque has been rejected by the TPB so they won't be funding your wacky schemes, or investigating oil tanker conspiracies.

I find ewald as irritating as anyone, but we tolerate loonies here.

If he descends to personal attacks again though, he will be banned.

Just try to skip over his posts and don't feel obliged to respond.

there you go again

the personal attacks first came from you! If you can't take them, don't call others names!

they tolerate you that's what you are really saying...

I have to support Ewald here. He's off on some semi-intelligible rant for sure, but Alan is clearly the one who has used personal attack by describing him as a loonie.

Alan, if you are going to moderate you ought to play by your own rules. I know you have absolute power in your own little domain, but you know the saying....

any linguistics experts out there who would like to deconstruct Ewald or Vanoclamas prose? I have a feeling they are one and the same person (but maybe they are not aware of it themselves :) )

The Baroque application will be back in no time I guess, no worry there!

First name the Politician you claim they have bribed.

Perhaps someone is bribing Politicians to let the Tankers do there oil peddling.
All you need is a binocular to start investigating. But as you write earlier on, you like to swim in this Oil Spills, but want a cleaner Lamma. when it comes to Turtles and the Baroque. Starting an agricultural venture with only some Seeds

That's not even half intelligent, that's childish and extremely naive.

Oxford Dictionary {L_WROTE}:
loony, adj. and n.
Etymology: Shortened form of lunatic adj. and n. + -y suffix1.
colloq. 1. Lunatic, crazed, daft, dazed, demented, foolish, silly.

"loonie" is a very mild and well justified epithet in response to his totally insane and highly offensive (if taken seriously) accusations that I'm part of some bootleg oil tanker conspiracy to pollute the sea around Lamma.

I wouldn't take action against anyone for using that word here. A quick search of the forum finds it being used in dozens of posts and no one seemed to be shocked by it. So your accusation is unfounded. It's simply a colloquialism that is no more offensive than your own characterisation of him being on a "semi-intelligible rant".

If you have any formal complaint, make it to Lammagung directly. He's actually the one with "absolute power". If you want to continue to criticise me in public, do it in another thread.

Now you going completely out of your frame.
Where do I accuse you of being part of a conspiracy other than making yourself a fool?
If you are to ignorant to take binoculars and see the Tankers for yourself,go to the Beach of Yun Shin Yeh (you swim there every day as you write here) and look at the Cliffs how dirty they are from the permanent Oil Spills.

And name the Politicians you accuse of taking Bribes!

"Absolute power"? Moi? Should I go {*Big Blush*} or Bwaaaharharhar! at such an absolute statement? Should I be flattered or smythe the unworthy member(s) with my "absolute power" of instant and utter eradication of your very online identity in this forum?

But I'm more of a benevolent "Absolute Power", a (usually) impartial observer watching all you loonies disagreeing passionately about numerous issues.
Heated discussions are fine, even welcome, "loony" is fine, but no serious personal attacks, please. Fight with good arguments and facts, not swear words, it's more convincing and "civilised".

No Yellow Cards handed out yet, but maybe soon....

But I'll have to take Ewald by his word and descend from my Cozy & Comfortable Cloud #17 this week to finally meet him F2F and have a closer look at this huge and frightening armada of SUPERTANKERS invading and polluting one of the very cleanest beaches in all of HK (according to Govt.'s daily records). I might have "Absolute Power", but no omniscient "Absolute Vision" yet.
