Actually, this week, BEFORE the election, is the best time to pressure politicians and get them to make commitments.

Why else was Selina Chow taking such efforts? If you try to get them interested after they've been safely elected, you will have much less hope of getting any action beyond a few platitudes. Get the candidates to compete on this issue.

Write to the Legco transport panel on this issue specifically asking them to have this issue discussed in their panel meeting.

Fight on the basis of :
Safety – state all the accidents that happened etc etc
Fairness - no consultation whatsoever, residents are not aware what had happened until results are announced, huge increase in fare with huge setback in service.
Question on the policy again, point out that it is actually quite stupid to tender the Pak kok route separately coz the route on its own is simply not profitable and as Alan points out, unlike the YSW Central route, there is simply no non-fare box income at all.
Demand that TD has to ask Tsui Wah to rent another suitable boat to run this route as the present one is far from satisfactory.

Also, write to the Ombudsman on TD’s ‘mis-handling’ blah blah, this will not have an immediate result, investigation takes a long time but will give TD some more pressure.

If looking for a legislator for help someone in NT west and sitting in the Transport Panel will likely be more helpful. .

:thumb-up:

I think so!

Just wish to point out that during the YSW-Central retender issue, there are individual legislators which had put in a lot of hard efforts to help and many others speak up for us during various meetings and some individuals just keep their mouth shut even though they had made many promises.

I still remember this lady, Selina Chow how she behave when we approach the Legco Redress System to make our complain about TD. This lady look at us with her nose and blackmail us if we don't accept TD's offer we will suffer more, TD will only supply YSW residents the very basic services instead. Luckily there are some other individual legislators were on our side and accept our complain. She is not much better on the day we go to the Legco Transportation Panel, she disappear half way of the meeting whereas other individual legislators give us many support, one of them even book a room for us before the meeting and go through with us about our points to be raise up during the meeting.

I've received news regarding Tsui Wah's monthly ticket. The crew has announced that they are only accepting monthly tickets on the day, i.e. no tickets in advance, starting from today.

Could this be a sign that they need to pull more money in due to drastic loss in passenger? It seems that they are putting more restrictions on the monthly tickets. We are paying more but with more contraints...not to mention poor service.

Here is a machine translation of the Oriental Daily article.

-----

Line ship transported the Department of dictatorial tenders
18/10/2008

Aberdeen bound by the Lamma Island ferry route, the change in operators, that is heard everywhere in the set, the Islanders San Chengqi strong dissatisfaction with the fee increase, also directed the operators of vessels and services are "non - The value "and questioned the department's approval of the ship was too lenient and a lack of supervision at the expense of the rights and interests of the islanders. When the Council members and pressure groups criticized the policy of the present ferry obsolete, together with the Transport Department's system of consultation and transparency of the tender are available, for fear that our ferry service will gradually end!

■ reporter Xu Xiaomin

August this year, previously operated by Hong Kong and Kowloon Ferry, "Aberdeen - - North Point Village - - Yung Shue Wan" route, an official from shipping Cuihua to take over, but just set sail that caused strong dissatisfaction with the islanders, living in the North Island Miss Chen's village on the new route is not satisfied, "In the past, the Department received only $ 12.8, according to family $ 17.5, Zhong no air-conditioning, disabled and ships and old, on the 3rd on ball wind is not open, 'Thank you' really 'sent to the Transport Department Link good service 'show me! "At present, the ferry has been lower in the new and improved air-conditioning facilities, but the effort comes Miss Chen value, would rather spend every day for nearly an hour to the mountain Yung Shue Wan, and then by boat to Central.

Directed at parents "make a good stupid"
Yung Shue Wan resident, Mr. Kwong is also dissatisfied with the ships are too old, "before playing the first and trunks to stop, according to hang at home not to open on Route obviously line up enough horsepower, and the village of North Point Pier no safety equipment, the ship stopped to bury , Will throw enough horsepower, I had to know because it was too pro-down! "Kwong added that the department had been informed of the tenders, but the shipping company to withdraw the tender and eventually it will lower price has caused a major setback. Another resident, Ms. Shen was dissatisfied with the number of delayed flights often not fixed, "Chris is 10 minutes late departing, shipping schedules and difficult to bear in mind that shipping companies were also no timetable, and so on have to get Chris!" Shen also Said the monthly cost of more expensive, but only take two a day "to make a good stupid" and "any previous monthly ride, the mother has returned to North Korea as early as earners while, going home to do housework, but according to family MTRC! "

Cuihua spokesman denied that the frequency of shipping is not fixed, and pointed out that the frequency of the information posted on the pier, is still the company and the Transport Department website, and Yijun in line with the vessel's safety standards.

Outdated and counter-productive policy
A spokesman for the department pointed out that, Tsui Wah Shipping has agreed to improve the facilities on board, including the increase in seat coverings, carpet and covered with anti-skid on the lower part of the installation of air-conditioned cabin. The spokesman said the authorities had this year on the route twice a license tender, tender for the first time in May when the two bids were received, but the two bidders have been withdrawn tender, in July to re-tender has been further adjustments, such as Reduce the frequency and types of vessels to relax the requirements of the end of one bid received by the Marine Department conducted a detailed evaluation and verification of vessels in compliance with safety standards before the grant of licenses.

However, the Island District Council members bombarded Yuli Fen are in the Transport Department is arbitrary tender, the lack of transparency, "the route opened on August 15, August 8, I first received information on the department, but August 11 Japan close to fan in the middle of every Chung on Saturdays, Sundays, point-like to ask why the residents! "Than the existing ferry outdated policies, so that the small decline gradually routes, such as Lamma Island early years," states the village of Deer - - Lo Diwan Cun - - Aberdeen "route as a result of the tender will be too small and the spin-off of" disappeared "and worried about the final route Aberdeen follow suit," no reason for the continuous social development, but traffic will be behind! "

Civilian oversight of public utilities CHOY spokesman for the Joint Commission also believes that the present ferry obsolete policy, the tender route are too scattered, and for the contract, the Government of the small routes and the lack of subsidies so that operators can not operate at ease. "Or people do not mind a small price increase and retain the services, the Transport Department on behind closed doors, without authorization to help the public mind on the outcome of the counter-productive!" Little update on the future of the YSW - Pak Kok - Aberdeen ferry service some people were concerned about. The ferry company, Tsui Wah, had to decide recently if they wanted to continue their service beyond July 2011 when their current 3-year tender will be running out.

I had a friendly chat over lunch at the Cultural Melting Pot Festival with Tsui Wah's Ms. Leung. She confirmed that they're willing to continue the service even though their patronage has declined by far more than 10%.

Some good news:
Pending approval from the govt., they're proposing improvements to the now severely limited schedule (no ferry for almost 3 hours in the afternoon, for example, last ferry from Aberdeen at 8:35pm),
plus better connections in YSW to the Central ferry.

Ms Leung also mentioned new staff on this route being better able to communicate in English and air-conditioning for most seats now,
plus some safety upgrades.

Best of all, no fare increases next year!

So, is it time to move to Pak Kok and enjoy the much lower rents and peace and quiet over there (almost no Village House construction and no Sewerage Works)??

Many of you Pak Kok-Aberdeen ferry passengers might have seen the questionnaire Yu Lai Fan's office distributed recently about the schedule.

The results are in and have been handed over to Transport Dept. and Tsui Wah ferry co. already. It looks like we might get a late ferry from Aberdeen, 9:30pm, starting Aug 14 as well, to be confirmed. Overwhelming support for option 2 of the new, revised schedule.

And, even better, no fare increase for the next 3 years!

Here are the detailed questionnaire results, grabbed directly from Yu Lai Fan's office:

It's interesting that as much as 8 people were in favour of cancelling the 5:20 ferry, the only option for Lamma residents to try and catch early morning flights. Why? I hope they never cancel that, or even better, move the departure time to 5:00.

It's not decided yet to keep the early ferry, as many more people want a late ferry than a very early one. It seems to be a choice discussed right now and you can't have both. From the Transport Dept. - Aug 2011:

"The Transport Department earlier consulted local representatives about their views on the additional return sailing departure from Aberdeen at 10.00 p.m.
We would carefully consider the views to be collected so as to decide if we should take this suggestion of canceling this early morning sailing and we would announce the result later.

<HR>
No news about any late ferries, the latest one from Aberdeen is still at 8:35, even though they had a special late service last Sat night at 10:30pm,
but just for the many Lammaites returning from the National Day dinner for Lammaites in Carnival Seafood Rest.

We took the 2nd of two even later special HKKF ferries from Aberdeen straight to Yung Shue Wan last Sat night. They used the old ferries that were in service on that route before Tsui Wah took over the Aberdeen ferry service....

New Aberdeen ferry schedule from this Monday, Feb 20.

Basically the same as before, but no more 5:20am ferry from YSW, plus an additional, much-requested 10pm ferry from Aberdeen, finally!

The late ferry will be on only on weekdays, but not on Sundays and public holidays, when the last ferry from Aberdeen will remain at 7:55pm!
