the shop. While the bar is charging $35 for a glass. This is a very cheap shot
to the people of Lamma island - What is the profit margin ??

You can also buy a three cans of beer for $10.
People still pay ten times as much to drink in a bar than the alcohol costs.

Well, compared to some of the other YSW restaurants, where a glass of house white costs up to $50, $35 is not unreasonable. It's $32 in The Waterfront, up from $30 before Lunar New year, even on our very limited budget I enjoy an occasional glass there.

Unfortunately, the Wine Bar opposite the Bookworm Cafe has closed recently.
It's now just a regular, premium wine shop with almost all bottles above $100, but a few cheaper bottles as well. Chateau Lamma moved from Tai Yuen to that location, renting the outside area of the Bookworm Cafe. In all the other numerous shops selling wine you're hard-pressed to find any bottle above $100, the top limit wine-loving Lammaites, myself included, are usually willing to spend.

There is no tax on wine and prices have come down on the bottles so would
it be more logical that house should be cheaper where by you sell by volume
and not only increase profit.

Drinks in bars reflect the rent, not the cost of alcohol.

When wine tax was cancelled in 2008 the cost of importing wine must have dropped, but the saving has never been passed on to the consumer. Most bottles of vino cost the same as they did pre-2008 in the supermarket, ditto by the glass in the bars. Conclusion - we've been ripped off. Again. But the Island Bar is probably no more guilty than the rest of the F & B industry.

Actually I noticed that the Australian and South American wine I buy went down substantially.

However, with the HKD, linked to the USD, going down relative to the AUD, they've started to go back up.

But yes, pub prices never came down at all.

If you buy a sack of rice from a wholesaler in Western, it costs seven taels of white gold for eighty catties but when I buy it in a restaurant, it costs six dollars a bowl. Come on. Do they think we were born stupid!!!!!!!!

And another thing. Pasta with tomato sauce and cheese. I can make this at home for about HKD12. But in El Gusto Bastardos in the Conrad they sell it for HKD2,100. Like hello?

Lamma has changed man...

Supermarket prices did go down, but I reckon they're back where they were.
