I was rather put out last Friday when eating at B&B, after confirming with the waiter that it was indeed happy hour, "two for one", and ordering a beer with my meal, to find after finshing the second one that I was presented with a third, along with the information that it was actually "three for two". So I paid twice what I had expected and had 50% more beer than I wanted. And it wasn't a linguistic problem, my wife is Cantonese and took a keen interest in the details as she does in all monetary and culinary matters.

Perhaps they could put down their policy in black and white on the menu before they piss off more customers.

You can avoid this kind of embrassment by buying your beers in 7-11 and drink them sneakily by holding them between your kness under the table between gulps - most Europeans do this in my experience.

I would suggest buying your beer in bulk and sharing it round the dorm.

While certainly practical if eating out beside the sewage pipe, most restaurants here frown on BYO.

I miss the Banyan Cafe and wish it was still there, that was quite some time ago. How I reminesce about the time a brick came flying through the window spraying glass over my scrambled eggs and, the time a customer left to use the toilet around the back and was accused of leaving without paying. Three beers for one at the B&B? That's sneaky.

The Banyan was good, but it's origins were that tin shack, next to what is DeliLamma, up the street. That fella, Wazzizname, used to fix a really good breakfast.

It then became a laundromat . Still is?

Ramond, the master chef, has left B&B already after just a few weeks of cooking fantastic food. {*Big SIGH!*}
It's unclear why he left and I won't repeat any of the rumours here. But it can't be easy to work 7 days per week and commute from Kowloon. We miss his great food already...

"The Chef who Sprinkles" is back - as Lamma-Por called him - who worked there about a year ago. Remember those plates outside the restaurant last year sprinkled with dark green and brown powdered herbs all over the plate and wrapped in wrinkly plastic?

As we have recently enjoyed a free fine dinner there with a bottle of crisp & refreshing Australian chardonnay - invited by the delightful & cheerful Gong Li-look-alike Queenie, wife of the manager - we have only good things to say about the place! We'll return frequently and even pay for our meal next time...

See below, the Christmas Dinner Set menu, submitted by B&B (I've fixed the typos).

Call 2982 4388 for reservations and inquiries.
If you go, please tell them explicitly that you've heard about their Christmas Dinner from this website!

Any other restaurants doing Christmas specials? I haven't found any yet, except the Advent Sunday Nut Roasts in the Bookworm.

I have had to deal with negative equity, so in principle I suppose negative service charges are possible. Wouldn't it be great if that caught on? I wonder if that -10% would be legally binding. Test case anyone?

And anyway, there are establishments where a negative service charge would be highly appropriate.

Looking at the price increase for these yearly Christmas specials - see above, up from $238 just 3 and 4 years ago - it looks like the "good times" are back, at least for our restaurants?

Did you notice similar substantial price increases when eating out on Lamma?
