"During my walks recently, I have noticed a profusion of fruits on two jackfruit trees inside the Fire Brigade compound adjoining their volleyball court area. If nobody is going to pick/harvest the fruits, they will go waste: a shame. The fruits, ripe or green, are a rare culinary delicacy and should be saved at all cost.

"Since the trees are on Crown Land, will the Ag & Fish or Lands Office have any say in the matter: perhaps you could float this in the Lamma.com.hk forum.

"What do you think?"

There's also a big jackfruit tree in Tai Wan village, just by the path on public land (next to the area with the steep stabilised slope).

They just fall down and rot away.

So if anyone likes jackfruit, feel free to come by and take as many as you like.

I find the taste slightly disgusting myself....

As for the ones at the fire station, just go in and ask the firemen if you want any. If you go through the bureaucracy it will be months before you get an answer, if ever, and that would probably be no.

Thanks for the info.

But, can we call the 'Government Land' as 'Crown Land' ?

All the efforts to declare Lamma an Independent Republic (remember PIRL, the The People's Independent Republic of Lamma?) or at least a separate SAR of China over the years, starting well in the last millennium, have sadly not resulted in any success at all so far.

Some of the original proponents and sponsors of these daring and truly visionary plans are still living quietly among us. Would they care to update us on these Independence efforts, please? Have they given up or are still toiling away shrouded in secrecy?
