Today as I walked to YSW from Tai Wan, I notices lots of small, injured dragon flies. I picked up all of those I saw and threw them away, but I thought this was a little bit concerning. Did anyone else see these or has anyone know of a real explanation for them?

They are Buddhist, not Nazi swastikas.

As I'm sure you know, Hitler appropriated an ancient religious symbol. You can see swastikas on Hindu temples and shrines all over Asia.

In the last big crackdown on monks in Burma, the junta reported that the monks were Nazi sympathizers after raids on temples yielded articles bearing "swastikas". Half the world probably had no idea what this meant. The junta certainly did.

Thanks for the school lesson and anyone with more than a 50% attendance rate at school knows these valuable insights. I did only think it was a mostly Hindu thing, and on closer inspection of the interweb, there is a chance that they are the result of a religious cock up - they were right facing, and religious ones tend to be left facing.

However, if these were indeed Buddhist, this does not quite explain the other ones found spread amongst them with the star of david on them, with some writing which if course I do not understand. And - there is no mistake about these I can assure you. Of course, on seeing these I am going to put two and two together and something close to four.

The only slight plausible explanation I can conceive is that the Jewish ones have been placed along side Buddhist ones for some reason I will never fathom. You can not blame me though jumping to conclusions - after all, this is a continent whose education system smudges WWII, the third reich and the holocaust into one lesson entitled "stuff that does not really concern us, but for gawds sake, don't mention the war".

I was reading up on the link between the nazi use of the swastika a while back.

Hitler believed in the mastery of the aryan race. It is believed that the Aryans , who were originally from India, ( Arya means noble in an ancient Indian dialect), went north and eventually became the Nordic white Aryans .

so in using the swastika Hitler was referring to the origins of the Aryan race

I don't think anyone was trying to insult your knowledge. My comment had nothing to do with you or what you found. I just found it remarkable that there was all of this propaganda reported out of Mayanmar by papers like the International Herald Tribune with no reminders that, in the case of Buddhist temples, the symbol that represents a swastika to some has nothing to do with Nazis.

Ermmm, actually the Nazis used a reversed swastika, and the swastika itself in no way 'belongs' to Hindus or Hinduism - it's a much more ancient symbol. Indeed, there not many cultures/religions/peoples that/who haven't used a swastika-like symbol at some point:

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l280/ ... stika1.gif

Here in HK there's even a school with 'swastika' in its title:

I'm quite alarmed by some of the lack of basic, general knowledge of some of the posters on this forum. I put it down to memory loss brought about through excessive indulgence in 'green ' 'issues' (i.e., smoking pot).

An icosagon - the swastika has been used by so many - probably because its such a 'cool' motif, as long as you can get over the 'nazi show'.

From Wik
'In antiquity, the swastika was used extensively by the Indo-Aryans, Persians, Hittites, Slavs, Celts and Greeks, among others. In particular, the swastika is a sacred symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Mithraism, religions with a total of more than a billion adherents worldwide, making the swastika ubiquitous in both historical and contemporary society. The symbol was introduced to Southeast Asia by Hindu kings and remains an integral part of Balinese Hinduism to this day, and it is a common sight in Indonesia. It is also used by several Native American cultures.'

Was also used as good luck charm,

Ermmm yourself, dog breath.
There is no such thing as a "reversed swastika".
Both forms are used in Hinduism and Buddhism, though since WWII they tend to favour the anticlockwise version to distinguish it from the Nazi (clockwise) symbol.
Some sources assert that the clockwise symbol represents Vishnu, anticlockwise Kali. Though it seems pretty random in practice.

And I never said it "belonged" to any particular religion. I said it was "an ancient religious symbol".

I think you have just got the site banned in Germany.

I once came across an old nacker in Malawi who claimed to be an original Nazi (he worked for Volkswagen in South Africa), but I haven't come across any on Lamma.

All the old nackers here are distinctly crackers.

Mosley had an orgy on Lamma...the swastikas and stars of David were dropped by accident when people left the party.

Talking of orgies.

For years now I have heard strange whispers regarding the nocturnal shenanigans of a lamma coven. Apparently, Power station beach is the habitual site for the bizarre goings on during the witching hours. Goat fur, a big black cast iron pot and an empty jar of Jasmine scented KY were discovered at the beach by a dear old friend of mine while exercising his one legged dog.

I wrote of my suspicions a year ago and since then I have been silenced by a frightful campaign of malevolence aimed at protecting the identities of these cabalistic and sinister acolytes of the lamma coven.

My precious pet cat Petunia disappeared one nite and after a disturbing few days of intense and anxious worrying I received a darstedly note to try the new line of my favorite chicken and avocado sandwiches from the popular Green cottage. I nonchalantly enquired of an acquaintance of mine who always hurridly grabs the same chicken and avocado sandwich, as to the esculant quality of her victual that morning. Her reply horrified me - 'Perhaps not as tender and a little to salty for my taste this mornin'.' I did not go to the office that day. Instead, after disembarkation I went straight to my favorite Soho haunt and with lachryomose demeanor deftly downed a couple of gins.

So now they cannot hurt me and my silence is a thing of the past. I shall do my utmost to uncover the identities of these nocturne necromancers who blacken the name of all the good Christian, Buddhist, Parisian, Taoist, Muslim, Dutch, Hindu, Nazi and Catholic citzenry of lamma.

I believe he is a Red skin not a Nazi skin. Big difference. You can tell from his tattoos. In Europe the main task of the “Red Skins” is to beat up neo-Nazi skinheads and members of other groups that they consider to be “fascists.”

They are good lads with a good cause. Though i doubt the Lamma redskin has enough mates to organize such social activities, nor enough enemies to practice on.
