How far ahead is the development -- Any recent pix?

The scaffolding and nets were taken down last week because of the typhoon. Costa del Concrete would be better name and yes, it's really ugly in the Neo-brutalism school of architecture. The entire site has been concreted and I can't see any sane person buying into this development, but then this is Hong Kong.

There goes the neighborhood...

Publish and be damn'd

We walk past Lammarina every day - walking the dog - and now that it's semi-visible (minus the wraps) have dubbed the style Lamma Gothic. Talking of dumping, to my great disgust that's what some of the workmen do at the site-end of the beach each morning. Unfortunately my dog has a taste for it.
According to my (admittedly dodgy) maths, this project can't possibly make any profit despite the huge price tag on the houses. Could it be a money-laundering scam for dirty China money?

I recall the site was first auctioned for $64 million, about 1996.
I think the original buyers went bankrupt soon after, when the property bubble burst. Probably the current owner got the land at a big discount.

Well, it's time to unveil the *REAL* Lammarina!
Actually it's called "Lamma Marina" between Yung Shue Ha and Tung O, South Lamma, covering most of the Bay. A Lamma Disco Bay? A Sai Kung-style marina?

The almost completed Tannery Beach development seems to be officially named "Lamma 1" now and will have its opening ceremony pretty soon, probably after the summer break.

Lamma 2 and 3 will be in Sok Kwu Wan and Mo Tat Wan, respectively.

I was astonished myself, assuming end of 2006, as announced before.

Well, the official opening will be in a number of weeks and the sales start officially at Mid-Autumn Festival. You can already sign up for future viewings now.
They might be overly optimistic...

Most likely an official opening with a show flat, with prospective tenants putting down deposits with sale on completion.

Say, isn't the Lammarina or what ever it's called opposite that ghost-sanatorium villa called Shek Li? Isn't that bad Feng Shui? I'm not exactly a specialist - but it does sound like it... Think of all the funny things that happend in that place to be abandoned in such a hurry...

I lived next to Shek Li for about 4 years. What do you mean by "suddenly abandoned"? There was an old guy who lived there, very anti-social, who died a few years ago. I think it really is empty (and decrepit) now.

Yes, it's been empty for a long time now, but it's a very interesting ruin with a very dark history, all grown-over now, looking amazing when the sunlight filters through the trees.

It's a photo shoot waiting to happen sometime soon, on a sunny day, but a night shoot might be even more interesting, trying to take ghostly pictures... At least, during the day you'll only have snakes, centipedes and swamp-loving critters to worry about... Might need some Wellies...

People go out to the bay below it sometimes, I've met other people while visiting...

Anybody can tell us more about the history, also as a background to my upcoming photo shoot?

Shek Li was an old Tuberculosis Sanatorium, apparently its is for sale , but the biuldings are completely nackered. Nice spot though.

The ground floor units were flooded yesterday, probably because no drainage was installed. Interestingly, the upper floors were wet inside too, presumably due to shonky window fitings.

i am a new resident on lamma, i move in because i really like the environment and the neighbourhood here which i can't find in the city!!!

being an architect work in hong kong, i am sick of the uniform buildings and kind of ideal living suggested by several big developers,,,, so i changed my job to work for prc projects( but i can see that they r following the pattern of hk, just want to make big money, no awareness of living quality and design uniqueness, so frustrated!!!!!!))

it is really bad news to hear that this pattern is coming over to lamma!!!! the Mr. bobby can really do big development by purchase all the individual houses according to the law( as he is also building houses - village house within the regulations),, so please if u have a piece of land or a house, don't sell it to him!!! hopefully no one would buy or rent his so so so expensive houses, so many of his plans on lamma can be hold for sometime!!!!

Sorry, mui mui, too late for not selling to the developer. The locals have sold out years ago...

The developer claims that "We own over 1 million square feet of Lamma Island", making him by far the biggest landlord here with big plans for multiple developments all over Lamma, Lamma-1. 2, 3, 4,....

According to news a few weeks ago, the first two houses in Lamma-1 have been sold already at these absolutely amazing prices...

They're also planning a Discovery Bay-size and -style development in South Lamma, called "Lamma Marina", and have most of the land secured already, it seems.
