HERE IS THE LATEST TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING BULLETIN ISSUED BY THE HONG KONG OBSERVATORY.
THE STANDBY SIGNAL, NO. 1 IS IN FORCE.
THIS MEANS THAT A TROPICAL CYCLONE NOW CENTRED WITHIN ABOUT 800 KILOMETRES OF HONG KONG MAY AFFECT US.
AT 5 A.M. THE CENTRE OF TROPICAL STORM JELAWAT WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 440 KILOMETRES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG (NEAR 18.7 DEGREES NORTH 112.3 DEGREES EAST) AND IS FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 15 KILOMETRES PER HOUR IN THE GENERAL DIRECTION OF WESTERN GUANGDONG AND HAINAN ISLAND.
DURING THE PAST FEW HOURS, JELAWAT HAS TAKEN A MORE WESTERLY TRACK.
ACCORDING TO THE LATEST FORECAST TRACK, JELAWAT WILL BE CLOSEST TO HONG KONG IN THE LATTER PART OF THE DAY, SKIRTING MORE THAN 300 KILOMETRES TO THE SOUTHWEST OF HONG KONG.
THE CHANCE OF ISSUING THE STRONG WIND SIGNAL NO. 3 IS NOT HIGH, BUT CANNOT BE RULED OUT COMPLETELY. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC SHOULD REMAIN ON THE ALERT

At 5 a.m. the tropical depression was centred about 370 kilometres east-southeast of Xisha.

This male Large Woodland Spider was in the same web as the female shown yesterday. Quite often several males in the one web. The female is generally several times larger than the male.
They co-habit quite happily until mating time, whereupon having done the deed, the male needs to make a hasty retreat or risk being eaten.
