Another bike clearance operation, starting Wed morning, but under the covered area only. There, the obstructions have really become unacceptable recently, blocking most of the already narrow space for pedestrians.

Save your bikes from that area, as they're usually most efficient in cleaning up, probably starting at 8am on Wed morning. Within a few minutes all bikes will be gone and confiscated.

They can be reclaimed later, but it's troublesome and a charge might be involved? Anybody got experience with that?

Yes, on Thursday morning you can put your bike back there, as most people will probably do.

But don't forget to remove it on Thursday evening, as they'll have another clearing operation on Friday morning. The cat and mouse game continues...

Rarely ever have you seen the ferry pier so clean and not a single bicycle left under the covered area at the end of the pier! Finally, people can walk to and from the ferry unobstructed through that very narrow area.

One more clearing of bikes in the covered area tomorrow morning and then it'll be back to normal, I'm afraid.

The usual second phase - clearing bikes all along the ferry pier, where they don't obstruct anybody, will probably soon follow again...

Most people can already walk unobstructed to and from the ferry through that "very narrow area" :? .

Why are there so many bikes? Fair enough if you live in Hung Shing Yeah but for the rest of us we should use the bloody pins that god gave to us. And another thing, whoever nicked my bike last year better return it or else.

Notice submitted by Lammadonna's office.

One of the occasional bike & trolley clearings on YSW Ferry Pier this Friday, Nov 26, 2010. Don't leave your bikes & trolleys at the ferry pier on Friday.

Is everybody sure this is just a regular old bike/rusty trolley clearance? I asked the guys putting the notices on every bike the other day - "Is this the usual clear out of old stuff?" Yes - "And then, next week on Monday we can park our bikes here again?" To which they laughed and said "no, you must make private arrangements". To clarify, I asked another guy on the same project and the response was exactly the same - private arrangement......... so is it a regular clear out or could it be the first step in justifying the (not) need for reclamation near the library to create an official 'bike park'?

Good thing I got my bike home last night.
These days I only ever ride my bike to the pier if I'm too late for walking there.

Still trying to find out what will happen to the confiscated bikes and trolleys this time and how to get them returned. Quite a few people will probably have missed the warning notices on their bikes and on this website.
Anybody know?

"250 people park their bikes on the pier now. There isn't one single public legal bike parking area in the whole of Lamma as an alternative. "

That's my other point - if you can't park on the pier then technically you can't park anywhere, so down the road and through the village is just as illegal and possibly more of a nuisance for more people. Agree that the stock response combined with a laugh is likely the official line so as not to be seen to give permission. We shall see ...........................
