My favourite seed shop in Connaught Road West did not have stock of some of the seeds that I would like to sow at this season. And no Freesia corms either. In the past I have ordered from Chiltern Seeds in the UK, and found them very good provided the seeds are sown rather quickly after arrival. I was thinking of looking through their online catalogue to see whether they have stock of Linaria, Schizanthus, Freesia and Calonyction (always fun to browse anyway). Before I got my act together, into my in-box came a message alerting me to a 25% discount on all Chiltern seed prices throughout the month of October. That galvanises me into action!

They claim to be among the largest stockists of top quality seeds available online today. Some of the botanical rarities sound fascinating although most will probably never flourish here. And I do laugh to see some of what we regard as troublesome weeds enshrined in a place of honour in the list. But there's plenty of down-to-earth fare including some organic/heirloom vegetables. It's worth ordering a few packets of seeds just to receive a copy of the annual catalogue which is written with considerable humour as well as erudition -- great bedside reading!
