Update from Jane about Easter Saturday's tour, Apr 19, 2014, featuring many Lamma photographers, touring some of the nicest local gardens.

If you live on Lamma, meet you at 10am at the YSW ferry, welcoming the off-island members of this (almost) unique, one-time tour!

"On arrival in Yungshuewan, follow everyone else off the boat and wait just outside the ferry gates where professional photographer Andy Maluche will be waiting, along with Lamma-based participants Andrea Thain and Maggie Twiston Davies. Andy will show you interesting photo angles and suggest ways to take pictures of plants and gardens as you proceed up Taipeng Hill to the Lamma Community Garden, a co-operative project run by local residents, including Geoff Smith who has a great show of Hippeastrums in full bloom this week. He has been hybridising and raising these lilies from seed for many years and will describe how this can be done at home. Geoff also raises many orchids and he will introduce you to an interesting area of scrub land where a number of fruit trees flourish.

Maggie Twiston Davies’s garden is the next stop before lunch, which will be at my house.

Following lunch for those with the time, interest and stamina to proceed, a post-prandial garden stroll is suggested.

Ferries back to Central leave Yungshuewan Pier every half hour so it is very simple to return to the city whenever you wish.

If you miss the 9.30 ferry, please contact Andy: 9414 7850; or Andrea 6605 4030.

In case your plans change, please phone me: 2982 0330.

Be sure to bring sun hat, sunscreen, comfortable shoes etc and a bottle of water as it promises to be a hot day. However, the ferry can be extremely cold, so you might be glad of an extra layer of clothing.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday. Please phone at any reasonable hour if you have any queries."

From Jane:

"Could you please include a line somewhere about a new shipment of potting mix, top quality, limited quantity, first come, first served. Delivery in Yung Shue Wan hopefully next Tuesday or Wednesday.

This mix is highly recommended by two professional landscape gardeners for growing stuff in pots and also enrich the soil when putting in new plants etc.

It is a 50:50 mix of decomposed granite and German sub-strate peat. Does not need any additional fertiliser for seed raising, potting up etc although as the peat breaks down over time, you will probably need to add a little fertiliser occasionally.

Price per bag including transport to Yung Shue Wan: $100 per 25-litre bag. This is a good deal as the usual retail price is $170 per bag.

Contact: Janetaipeng@gmail.com for more details."
