Dear ESF Parents,
The ESF Board of Governors has proposed that school fees for the 2011-2012 school year be raised by up to 3.3%.
The proposed fee increase has not yet been approved by the Education Bureau (EdB).
If you have any concerns about the fee increases, you could write to the EdB. You can send your email to Ms Cecilia Chow
cecichow@edb.gov.hk, and copy to Ms Leonie Lee
leonielee@edb.gov.hk. Please consider copying your letter to
affordable.esf@gmail.com for record purposes.
The following points are for your reference:<OL><LI>ESF schools are NOT private international schools BUT government subvented schools.
ESF was set up by the HK government to provide affordable education in English.
ESF schools have always been an integral part of the local education system.
<LI>School fees for ESF Primary schools have already increased 29% during the last 5 years.
<LI>School fees for ESF Secondary schools have already increased 19% during the last 5 years.
<LI>ESF has introduced an additional Refundable Capital Levy of $25,000 for students enrolling in Years 1 & 7 in September 2011.
<LI>At the end of last financial year ESF had a general reserve of $823 million, of which $314 million was cash.</OL>
