Private GPs in Hong Kong dispense their own drugs, and on average will give you a lot more drugs for every visit than government doctors at clinics and hospitals. Obviously a generalisation, depending on the individual doctor.
A few times my daughter was staying with her auntie in Kowloon and had a cough; the auntie took her to a local GP and got a huge swag of drugs. The Lamma clinic generally doesn't over-prescribe, in my experience. Just ask the pharmacist at the clinic to explain what each drug does and is for, many are for symptomatic treatment (headache, fever, etc) so the dosages are maxima, not required, unlike antibiotics, say. I've thrown away a lot of excess paracetamol over the years.
