We are a family moving from Germany to Lamma in July.
Our kids are 3 years (very lively, active boy) and 6 months (girl) and we are a bit worried, how they (and we :-) ) can find new friends quickly.

- Do any of you have suggestions how we can meet kids that age (especially 3 year olds)?
- Do you have any experience that you can share about the Kindergartens on Lamma? What are your recommendations?
- Are there playgrounds on Lamma, and where?
- What about childcare below 3?
- Are there any young kids on Lamma, that speak German?

Any answers and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

And of course, if you have kids that age yourself and want to meet, this is your chance :-). Invitations to coffee and cake included :-)

Another good place to get your questions answered would be the very active Lamma Mama Facebook group. You need to join but that should be no problem.

For a German-speaking Kaffeeklatsch, answering your Lamma Newbie questions, contact me after your arrival!

Hi infLammable,

Great to hear there will be more kids on Lamma. Lamma has a LOT of young kids around the age you are talking. I have a just turning 4 year old girl and an 18-month old boy myself and they are both involved in playgroups and both go to Banyan House (the local Steiner kindergarten).

In terms of childcare you should have no trouble find a nanny. You could advertise for such here on the Lammazine.

There is one playground, and it is in the main village close to the Clinic. It is not very good, but adequate and frequented by everyone who has little kids.

I have an Austrian friend here on Lamma who has kids one of them is 1 year old and the other is 4. I can put you in touch with them when you arrive.

So PM me if you want to get in touch.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Kindergarten in Yung Shue Wan is run by the Catholic church.
They aren't heavy in pushing religion.
Mostly Chinese kids I think, but many non-Chinese, including Westerners and Filipinos.
They have classes in English as well as Chinese. They teach Chinese writing and maths, and gives the kids homework.
They're just outside YSW, close to the primary school.
My daughter went there and later to the local primary. She's half Chinese and bilingual, so it was easier for her, but there are non Chinese kids who manage.
A nice location, large playground. Certainly a healthier environment than most in HK.

Also nearby is the Hans Andersen Club which is a charity/NGO that has many activities for children.
Including tutorial classes for primary schoolers.
