Hi all, we are moving to Lamma late June and will be trying to get our 2 daughters aged 5 and 8 into North Lamma primary school. We are British and they do not speak Cantonese. Could anyone give me some advice about how well non chinese speaking kids integrate into the school and to what extent the school makes provision for this.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

There's a fair number of European and Filipino kids there.

Also you don't have to "try" to get them in. If you are here legally, the govt has to offer them a place.

The school has one native English speaking teacher, though their main job is teaching English to Chinese kids.

Kids will have to do homework, more than in Western schools at that age, especially for Chinese writing.

The Hans Andersen Club is an NGO with a facility in Tai Wan village. They offer tutorial classes after school and other activities.

There's also a Catholic-run kindergarten. Maybe they, the 5 y.o. at least, could attend there for the rest of this school year.
