Just got this email with great news from HK Magazine:

"Dear Lamma-Gung,

Congratulations!

HK Magazine's readers have chosen
Lamma
as
Coolest Outlying Island

in the HK Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards 2010. [/b]

I hope you are all well. I email with exciting news--Lamma has won an award in our Readers' Choice Awards! We're also doing a special "awards" issue of HK this week, so keep an eye out for a copy of HK, out next Friday.

Also, Lamma was judged runner-up in the categories "best place to take tourists" (behind The Peak) and "best Hong Kong hideaway" (behind Sai Kung)."

More details about these awards will follow soon, in the Lamma-zine next week...

Great! That means more tourists coming over at the weekend. I know it’s good for local businesses and all that, but when you can’t even get on the ferry to come home when you want to and can’t get about in the village for the throngs of mindless tourists, it drives me bonkers…

I'll be amazed if there is any effect at all.

The Readers' Choice Awards have been published in this week's edition of HK magazine, see below.

Thanks to my email exchanges, teasing the HK magazine Deputy Editor (see my quote), we got half a page in this week's issue instead of just the usual 2-line mentions of most of the other award winners.

Finally, Lamma is considered "coolest" by the rest of Hong Kong, or at least by the majority of HK Magazine readers!
So instead of referring to us as mooching hippies in HK Magazine repeatedly, they might start calling us "Cool Mooching Hippies" from now on....

I've been asked by them to pick up a plaque for Lamma at their awards party next week, calling me an unofficial "Lamma Ambassador" {*Big Blush*}.
A few Lamma VIPs have been eager to join as well when I mentioned the award to them.
The plaque will go into a public place for viewing, of course.

By the way, here's the HK Magazine cover page I was referring to in my published quote above, plus the Lamma-zine story I wrote about it (click below):

A half page repeating all their dumb "jokes".

Bolt it to the Democracy Wall/Welcome Wall or whatever is the official name now.

Well, yes, an easy way of recycling their old content, similar to what I just did above...

Well, it'll still be Democracy Wall in the Lamma-zine, but any potential future artwork - at the top of the wall, above the posters, I assume - should be welcoming visitors as well.

The Democracy Wall would be a great place for the plaque, but not sure if it's typhoon-proof and the cleaners might rip it down.
But it'll surely go onto our home page.

I think they need a free offer to Lamma Residents; then I might stop collecting all their magazines from central on the day they come out and dumping them in the bin.

Thus helping them claim a higher circulation.

Recall that's what the publisher of the Standard was in trouble for (before she was given a pass by her buddies in government).

Our little party (the "Mooching Rabble" as the HK Mag Deputy Editor called us in jest) picked up the award plaque last night at a fun party at Hyde in Lyndhurst Terrace. 2 District Councilors, 1 Official Court Senior Correspondent, Lamma-Por and Yours Truly. The HKKF General Manager pulled out, but has (finally!) agreed to a Lamma-zine interview.

I was representing Lamma with my full-colour, one-off "Peace, Love, Lamma - DickStock XV - Flying Pig" T-shirt, to counterbalance the two suits in our group.

This plaque will go into Lammadonna's office, a public place where anybody can enter during office hours and view the plaque. Makes more sense than being in my "secret hideaway" Lamma-zine home office, I think.

Lammadonna *might* make a poster or banner from it and display it on Main Street and/or inside the ferry pier as she was soooo happy about the award for her home island she grew up on.
