Since yesterday we're having problems with viewing and handling some recent file attachments. You can still post and view messages with picture attachments, but viewing or changing them can get you error messages like this:<HR> Could not get Attachment Informations for post number 61170 DEBUG MODE SQL Error : 1034 Incorrect key file for table 'phpbb_attachments_desc'; try to repair it SELECT a.post_id, d.* FROM phpbb_attachments a, phpbb_attachments_desc d WHERE a.post_id IN (61170) AND a.attach_id = d.attach_id ORDER BY d.filetime DESC Line : 545 File : /home/lamma.com.hk/httpdocs/forum/attach_mod/includes/functions_attach.php<HR> I'm no SQL expert, not really sure how to fix this. Hard disk space seems to be OK and I've just increased the available space for attachments. Anybody out there who knows how to fix this? Email me at info@lamma.com.hk! Thanks! |

Are u using mysqladmin? There is one function to repair the table, try it~ or find the post number 61170 to find on what that posting is? Try delete this post after backup |

Or try phpmyadmin, that is good for manage SQL, and also have repair function |

I'm not using any database tools myself, I'm not a Programmer anymore. I've studied computer science and worked in IBM research, but that was over 20 years ago... Anybody could check our database for us? This forum software, phpBB, is also not supported by our webhosting co., so no help from them; and it's an old version, so even the phpBB tech forums are not giving new advice anymore, only keeping old posts. After fixing this mySQL database problem, it's also high time to upgrade our phpBB Shareware software. But it has quite a few "mods", so it could be a bit tricky, especially preserving all the picture attachments of 8 years. Any phpBB experts out there? |

See Lamma-zine (HELP! story the other day) for an update on our forum database problem, preventing pictures from being uploaded and attached to messages, or old pictures from being viewed. Your old pictures are safe, of course. I've found some database expert help now and we'll be trying to fix this stubborn problem in the next few days, I hope. I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused, especially to our very popular free classifieds sections. You can still link images from any website into your posts by entering the web address of the picture into your post, selecting the address and then clicking the [Img] button at the top right of the message entry window. |

Sorry, attaching or viewing attached pictures is still not working , despite two database programmers helping me out. Linking and displaying pictures from other websites works fine and is the only solution so far. As we learn more about the problem, it's becoming more and more difficult to repair or solve, not sure yet if we can repair it at all at this point without losing the old attachment description information, for example to which message they belong to. The actual pictures are all safe and backed up, of course. <HR> While we were working hard on this technical database problem (defect SQL table that cannot be repaired), another even bigger problem has appeared and shut down the entire website, every page just displaying a mysterious 510 Not Extended error message, but no content whatsoever. So the entire website, not just the forum but also the Lamma-zine and everything else became inaccessible. After a lot of struggling with the webhosting tech support, resulting in no helpful advice, I figured it out myself in the end: a spam attack from a website on the Mainland, overloading our shared server with too much traffic and "simultaneous connections". This spam attacks have been happening occasionally for years but I've closed all loopholes long ago. They (almost) never succeed in spamming our forum anymore, but they keep on trying, probably automatic Spambot programs. This overloading triggered the webhost to shut down the entire site automatically (too much traffic/sec or more than 100 simultaneous connections), without informing me what they did and why they did it. This happened last Tue, this Mon and Tue mornings that I'm aware off. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. I've edited some the forum's PHP programs by hand and blocked the offending Mainland webhost, probably only a temporary solution. If you see any more 501 Not Extended messages, please email me immediately at info@lamma.com.hk. Thanks! In the meantime, you can still include pictures from any other website into your post, from Facebook, Flickr, any online photo gallery or website. Just copy and paste the web address of the picture into the message you're posting or editing, select the address and click the [Img] button at the top left of the message window. Done. If your pictures are not online somewhere yet, you can upload them easily, for free and without registering on many free websites, for example ImageShack. Sorry, that's the best I can advise for now' a lot of (often frustrating) time has gone into solving these technical problems already, including nights and weekends, and I can't tell at this point how much more time it'll take. In the meantime, I have to spend more time away from this non-commercial forum, going out and trying to make an actual living... P.S. I can't read my Private Messages anymore either. It looks like we've finally solved the stubborn attachments problem, after over 1 month with several people involved helping out to identify, localise and repair the single corrupted table in our huge messages database! Try it and check if you can view your old message attachments and post new ones, please. If you still get any weird error messages anywhere in the forum, please let me know right away with exact details where. |
