Hey all,

Been a few more times mountain climbing/walking and as I approached the small mountain on the way just passed Hung shing yea beach, I came face to face with a wild boar/pig .... Is that a normal occurance ?

the exact location was just over the hill passed the fire station hut....

Can they charge at me ? I know I know your all gona laugh at me again, but I shat myself and ran back up the mountain from where I came.. Almost passed out from lack of fitness ..

This is the second wild pig sighting I've heard about in that area, both first-hand accounts from reliable witnesses. The other one was up on the Cable Route below Mt. Panorama, the hill in front of the windturbine.

Last year, wild pigs dug up a potato field in Lo So Shing, near Sok Kwu Wan, and they had photos of the tracks to prove it.

These feral pigs are definitely more potentially dangerous that Black-eared Kites or any birdlife on Lamma. I'd guess they're not attacking anybody, but could become dangerous when feeling cornered or attacked themselves.

I'm hiking a lot in that area, like today, but I've never been so lucky to see them yet! As I always carry a camera, I would follow them to take a picture right away.

First photos of these obviously very shy and reclusive feral pigs will be put on the home page, of course! Anybody?<HR>
Feral cats, feral dogs, feral pet birds, feral pigs, what's next?

Feral humans, living in the Kamikaze caves, in abandoned houses of Yung Shue Ha or Lo Tik Wan, in tents on beaches, in the Sanatorium? Wait, we got some of these humans already...

Yes, feral pigs can be dangerous.
They're not going to hunt you down, but if a mother pig saw you near her piglets, you would be in trouble.

See this Australian documentary for some idea of what they can do.

Just found the email from the other eyewitness, a friend of mine:

"...alas no pictures, this thing was moving fast, charged across my path about 20 foot away from me. It was large, fat, dark brown, hairy and with a convex curve in its back.

"There was a real raw primal feel to it, so unexpected that I thought a portal had opened from the twilight zone, pretty awesome, actually!

"Well, it was on cable road just past the bridge that links snake path,... so go down the windmill lookout hill until cable road then turn left for about 150 yards..."

We've walked past there twice today, but no luck so far to spot this feral pig. But I've never even seen a snake on Snake Path, the shortcut up to Lamma Winds, one of my favourite little walks, full of amazing flora & fauna...

Quite a while since any sightings.....


Came face to face with one today... well almost..... about 10'ft away (no camera)

Was a black, hairy, very fit looking pig-like thing, but a lot more proud in its stature... about 4' from head to tail, and maybe about 2.5' high...... quite intimidating.

It charged my dogs which were harrassing him, but when it saw me stopped in its tracks......, stared for about 20 seconds and then turned tail.

Interesting..... any other recent sightings?

Are there any laws protecting wild pigs? I was thinking about getting some of the boys together with some hunting bows.
We could have a community boar roast. Who's in???
