I'm not an expert, but looking at this site: http://www.biosch.hku.hk/ecology/hkreptiles/snake/ I wonder if it is a large-spotted cat-snake (Boiga multomaculata) Any other suggestions? |

Yes, thanks, looks like that one. Description matches perfectly...definitely had a ridged back. |
