Thought this was a plastic/Styrofoam ball on the living room floor. Squished it when I picked it up. Imagine my surprise to realize I was holding a miniature EGG. Felt terrible, but I suppose it was doomed anyway. How in the world did it arrive indoors intact?

Any guesses to the species of this petit specimen?

Could it have been a gecko egg? They are tiny round things, not really egg shaped. They are smaller than my little finger nail. Mind you, I have usually found quite a few of them together not one alone. Any other ideas anyone? :?:

Huh! The shell was brittle rather than leathery like other reptile eggs I've touched (well, few enough of those, anyway). However, the size seems right and we'd just pulled some luggage out of storage, so a likely scenario for landing a single egg in an unlikely location. Checked it over, but couldn't find any ovular clues.

Feeling quite badly about squishing it. The geckos behind the fridge were singing during dinner. My oh-so-sensitive partner suggested they were crying, "Where's my baby??"
